India v West Indies 1999-2000

At Kallang Ground, Singapore, September 5. West Indies won by 42 runs. Toss: West Indies. International debut: W. W. Hinds.

With both teams having qualified for the final, several key players were rested: Tendulkar for India, Walsh and Campbell for West Indies. For the second day running, rain reduced the game to a 30-over contest. India began in style when Jacobs lofted the first ball straight to mid-on, but it did not prevent a steady flow of runs, which became a torrent while Powell and Lara were batting. Powell scored 46 in 44 balls, Lara 60 in just 43. When India replied, Ganguly and Dravid put on 73 for the second wicket before Ganguly was stumped. Apparently more concerned with an appeal for lbw or caught behind, he was too casual in regaining his ground - and the opportunistic Jacobs, standing back to McLean, threw down the stumps. Soon afterwards, India lost three more wickets for five runs and gave up a largely pointless run-chase.

Man of the Match: B. C. Lara.
