Pakistan v Sri Lanka 1999-2000

At Sharjah, October 22 (day/night). Pakistan won by 88 runs. Toss: Pakistan.

Another spell of accomplished swing bowling from Azhar Mahmood - as well as two unfortunate umpiring decisions - ensured a convincing Pakistan victory. Fifties from Saeed Anwar and Inzamam-ul-Haq, playing his 200th limited-overs international, were the mainstay of the innings, which, despite their efforts, never quite took off. Wasim Akram did his best late on, hitting 30 from 26 balls, though leg-spinner Chandana, with three for 40, helped restrict the target to a gettable 212. However, Sri Lanka lost their captain fourth ball, before Kaluwitharana and de Silva put on 49. Then de Silva edged to first slip, where Inzamam claimed a catch when the ball lodged between his knees. Third umpire Steve Dunne scrutinised countless replays, which suggested the ball had bounced on the ground - and then gave him out. One run later, Kaluwitharana was ruled lbw by umpire Shepherd after deflecting the ball on to his pads. After that, Mahmood ran through the batting and ended with five for 28 from his ten-over spell.

Man of the Match: Azhar Mahmood. Man of the Series: Inzamam-ul-Haq.
