India v Pakistan 1999-2000

At Perth, January 28 (day/night). Pakistan won by 104 runs. Toss: Pakistan.

Waqar and Wasim's destructive pace had India reeling at 33 for five and consigned to their sixth defeat in seven games. Poor India: they even had the embarrassment of a batsman ordered back by the umpires without facing a ball. Martin had come in at No. 4 to replace Tendulkar, out to a controversial caught-behind decision after hitting four fours in 14 balls. But as he had been off the field injured for two hours in Pakistan's innings, Martin was told he must wait until the fall of the fifth wicket. At least he then had the consolation of adding 86 with Robin Singh. Batting first, the Pakistanis had profited from consistency down the order after the openers put on 77 by the 14th over. Victory guaranteed them a place in the finals.

Man of the Match: Wasim Akram. Attendance: 10,531.
