Sri Lanka v Pakistan 2000

At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, July 9 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by six wickets. Toss: Pakistan.

Pakistan made their highest total of the tournament, but it was not enough. For long periods, their innings had not promised as many runs, but Azhar Mahmood slammed an unbeaten 43 off 25 balls at the end, hitting a six and four fours while adding 58 off 39 balls with Abdur Razzaq. Sri Lanka launched their reply with an opening stand of 96 in 17 overs between Jayasuriya and Gunawardene, and were able to measure the run-chase comfortably after that. They won with four balls to spare.

Man of the Match: S. T. Jayasuriya.
