With Zimbabwe distracted by pay disputes and tensions over racial quotas, a 12th consecutive defeat was no surprise. None of the middle order managed to stay with Grant Flower long enough to set England a real challenge. Once again, Hoggard bowled a miserly spell, though it was Chris Silverwood, in his first match of the series, who removed Campbell and Carlisle in his first two overs. As so often, the onus fell on the overburdened Flower brothers. Grant reached a superb century in 133 balls but, moments later, a collapse began: six wickets went for 24, restricting Zimbabwe to an inadequate 228 on a good pitch. A confident England had picked just four specialist batsmen, and the experiment worked as they overhauled Zimbabwe with ease. Knight took his aggregate for the series to 302, while Collingwood again showed his on-side power, moving to 56 not out from 46 balls.
