India's mediocre 233, which would have been even lower but for unusually sloppy South African fielding, was superbly defended by some inspired slow bowling from Harbhajan Singh and Kumble. India's new-ball pair quickly removed both openers, but it was Kumble and Harbhajan who decided the game. Within 11 overs, they took five wickets, leaving South Africa 106 for seven, and out of the match. Earlier, Ganguly hit Pollock for two sixes over point, but neither he nor Tendulkar built on good starts. Crucially, Dravid was dropped twice: once off Ntini by Gibbs at mid-off when 13, and then off Kallis by Klusener at slip one run later. He went on to add 90 with Yuvraj Singh, the best stand of the innings. Pollock was magnificent, and quickly readjusted after initially pitching too short. His five wickets included three of the top four (he also had Tendulkar caught off a no-ball) and the fifth made him only the second South African, after Allan Donald, to reach 200 wickets in one-day internationals.
