Kenya v Pakistan

At Gymkhana, Nairobi, August 29. Pakistan won by four wickets. Pakistan 5 pts. Toss: Pakistan.

A familiar burst of new-ball genius by Wasim Akram seemed to have scuttled any hope of an upset, but things are seldom simple when Pakistan are involved. Under overcast skies and on a juicy pitch, his left-arm swing was nearly unplayable in the early overs, as he turned back the clock by several notches and took three for 30 - including Steve Tikolo, Kenya's captain and star batsman, for a duck. After Kenya slumped to 30 for four, Abdul Razzaq's four wickets completed the damage, and the home side tumbled to a disappointing 133 all out. When Pakistan replied, they threatened to unravel, slipping to 97 for six. But Rashid Latif 's cool head silenced the parochial crowd. His unbeaten 28, from 23 balls, steered the Pakistanis home with more than 16 overs to spare.

Man of the match: Abdul Razzaq.
