Kenya v Australia

At Gymkhana, Nairobi, September 2. Australia won by eight wickets. Australia 5 pts. Toss: Australia.

Kenya's flaws were cruelly exposed after Ponting made them bat first in spicy conditions against the world's most potent new-ball attack. McGrath and Gillespie extracted three wickets each in their opening spell, and Kenya plummeted to a catastrophic 17 for six, in danger of setting a new world record low. McGrath's precision brought him three for eight in eight overs. Ultimately the Kenyans managed 84, thanks to the stubbornness of Patel and the lusty hitting of Collins Obuya, but it was still their lowest-ever score in a one-day international. Australia picked off the runs in only 17 overs, with Hayden again profiting.

Man of the Match: G. D. McGrath.
