Pakistan 1-1 Sri Lanka

Sharjah Cup, 1990-91

The crisis in the Gulf cut back plans for a four-nation Sharjah Champions Trophy, as India and West Indies declined to send teams. Instead Pakistan and Sri Lanka contested the Sharjah Cup, sponsored by Instaphone. Sri Lanka, maintaining the good form which had brought them victory in their last game in India twelve days earlier, won the first match by a convincing six wickets, but Pakistan took the second and claimed the cup on superior run-rate. The beneficiaries of the Cricketers' Benefit Fund Series were Pakistan's Tauseef Ahmed and Wallis Mathias, who received US$35,000 each. Pakistan received US$20,000 and Sri Lanka US$10,000, while the Batsman and Bowler of the Tournament, Ijaz Ahmed and Rumesh Ratnayake, who also won the individual Man of the Match awards, took home US$1,000 each.
