This was another rout, though it was at least enlivened by a moment's controversy. With 30 overs to go, South Africa six short of victory and Gibbs a boundary from an unprecedented fourth consecutive one-day international century, leg-spinner Alok Kapali speared a delivery down the leg side. It beat the wicket-keeper and crossed the ropes to concede five wides, levelling the scores. Gibbs then drove down the ground for a single. The Bangladeshis denied they had deliberately deprived him of the record. Whatever the intention, it could not detract from another magnificently explosive innings: Gibbs's undefeated 97 included 19 fours and came off just 66 balls. Had he reached his hundred, it would have been comfortably South Africa's fastest.
