New Zealand v West Indies

Richard Hobson

At Birmingham, June 26. No result (D/L method). New Zealand 3 pts, West Indies 3 pts. Toss: New Zealand.

Rain proved a more potent opponent than the West Indian attack: New Zealand needed 43 runs from 7.2 overs, with eight wickets in hand, when a final downpour thwarted their push for victory. The game began as a 35-over contest at 2.25 p.m., but was interrupted after ten overs of West Indies' innings. Lara and Sarwan then added 56 in 29 balls, but New Zealand's adjusted target of 140 in 21 overs stood within reach against undisciplined bowling.

Attendance: 10,225; receipts £126,533.
