Match 3, Zimbabwe v India

Videocon Triangular Series, 2005-06

Special Correspondent

At Harare, August 29, 2005. India won by 161 runs. India 6 pts. Toss: Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe turned in a much better display in the field, but let themselves down with abysmal batting - all out in the 25th over for 65. India had never dismissed a side for less. It had been 43 for nine before last pair Streak and Utseya added 22; no one else managed double figures. Earlier, Streak bowled a testing opening spell. Only Kaif made much headway, and his dismissal left India a mere 121 for four after 35 overs. But Dhoni counterpunched for 56 off 46 balls, and Yuvraj Singh helped him add 103 at seven an over. Even so, a target of 227 was attainable on paper, with Nehra looking less effective than against New Zealand. But Pathan's swing pitilessly exposed the technique and spirit of Zimbabwe's batsmen, and brought him his best one-day return.

Man of the Match: I. K. Pathan.
