5.1 to MJ Guptill, Given lbw. Guptill has a chat with Nicol, and decides against reviewing it. This one skids a little, and does him in for the pace a little. Short of a length, just outside off, and he is deep into the crease to try to punch it. The ball nips back in, and skids off and hits him on the knee roll in front of middle and leg. Hitting top of leg. 24/1 40.3 to BJ Watling, Too cute. Tries to follow up that lovely off drive with a scoop. Gets down on a knee, in front of off, the head falls away as he tries the dangerous shot, and he gets a bit too under it to lob an easy catch for Narine at short fine leg. It is the cutter that has done him in here. 191/6 45.4 to KD Mills, short of a length, outside off, Mills stands rooted and swings. Looking to go down the ground, gets too under it, and skies it for Gayle at cover. 219/8 49.1 to NL McCullum, length ball, slower ball, 116ks, outside off, McCullum sees an opportunity to get under it, but is slightly too early into this, and goes only as far as deep midwicket. A fighting hand from McCullum but one that is not likely to be enough. 239/9
7 | 0 | 47 | 1 | 6.71 | 22 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 2 | |
13.3 to DR Flynn, what a way to get out. This would have been called a wide had he not edged it. It's really wide outside off, and he has done well to reach it on the drive, but all he manages is an edge. He will be kicking himself for that. You don't get such flat wickets and small fields every day. 71/2
10 | 0 | 28 | 2 | 2.80 | 40 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 0 | |
18.3 to KS Williamson, offbreak now, and is lazily dragged on. Length ball, outside off, and Williamson stays back to it, and also pushes at it away from the body. The inside edge hits him low on the pad, and rolls onto the stumps. That's a second wicket gifted today. And that's out of three. 97/3 44.3 to JDP Oram, walks right past one. Almost as if he was blindfolded. Oram jumps out of the crease, Narine bowls a flat offbreak, and Oram is about a foot away from the line of it. Stumped by a mile. He didn;t even bother trying to make it back. 216/7
8 | 1 | 22 | 1 | 2.75 | 33 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | |
25.1 to TWM Latham, Sammy strikes. It's an interesting dismissal. C Gayle B Sammy. Gayle breaks into a little jig. As for Latham, if you are getting bullied by a Sammy bouncer, well... No disrespect to Sammy, pace like fire is not his virtue. This is dug in short, he goes back for the pull, is late into it, and top-edges it to midwicket. 124/4
6 | 0 | 28 | 1 | 4.66 | 14 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
26.1 to RJ Nicol, Another soft dismissal, and Samuels is laughing himself silly here. Short of a length, just holds up a bit, and Nicol is early into the punch, lobbing it back to Samuels. 125/5 |

3.2 to J Charles, that's dead plumb. Umpires don't get to make easier decisions than this. Low full toss, swinging in, and Charles has walked across to play across its line. Hit on the full. Can't get away with it. Boult has had a superb start to his ODI career. 19/1 34.3 to R Rampaul, This shall do it for New Zealand. Their first win of the tour. Full ball, Rampaul goes after it, toe-ends it to long-off where Southee completes the catch. West Indies couldn't even take their Batting Powerplay. 161/10
6 | 1 | 14 | 1 | 2.33 | 28 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | |
8.4 to CH Gayle, Big wicket. Huge wicket. New Zealand know it. This game is not over. Gayle has been tentative so far, and has looked unsettled. Plays at a full delivery without any feet, from inside the crease, and just offers the bat to dry. The slight movement away takes a healthy edge, and Guptill pouches it at first slip. 33/2
7 | 1 | 22 | 2 | 3.14 | 30 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
11.4 to DR Smith, What a mindless shot from Dwayne Smith. Lovely catch from Nathan McCullum, though. Short of a length again, angling in towards off, Smith is caught in the crease as he tries to loft this over mid-off. As he is playing well in front of the body, all he manages is a lob that looks like it might clear cover, but McCullum runs back, and takes it superbly over his shoulder. 50/3 27.3 to D Ramdin, Seven, eight, through the gate... Ramdin is trapped dead in front. short of a length, angling in, staying a little low, skidding through, hit on the knee roll in front of middle. Caught on the crease too. They heck for the no-ball, but Big Jake is fine. 103/8
6 | 0 | 40 | 2 | 6.66 | 18 | 2 | 3 | 0 | 0 | |
22.5 to KA Pollard, this is lacking in any cricketing intelligence. Michael Holding's famous words come to mind. Pollard has left a few, and swung at few without any rhyme or reason. This is a length ball, slightly slower in the air, and Pollard swings across its line to find deep midwicket with surgical precision. He could have done the same at least twice before. 85/6 26.1 to DJG Sammy, back of the bat. Seven down. Sammy is not known for his soft hands, and is done in because of that. Looks to a flick a length ball, is way too early into the shot, and the hard hands mean it lobs back all the way for a simple catch to N Mac. 95/7 |
