Sir Richard Hadlee will undergo further surgery following the discovery of secondary cancer in his liver. An NZC statement said it was still at a "very early stage". The former New Zealand captain had been diagnosed with bowel cancer last month, and had undergone surgery to have a tumour removed.
"Medical advice is that it's still at a very early stage and is operable," the release, issued on behalf of Hadlee's wife Lady Dianne, said. "Once he has recovered from the operation, Richard will undergo further chemotherapy treatment.
"As with the first statement released on this matter, we disclose these details solely in the interests of transparency, and to avoid speculation and gossip. We would again ask that people respect our request for privacy."
