Left-arm fast bowler Ashish Nehra has said he is deeply hurt after being left out India's squad for the first two ODIs against England. Nehra missed the World Cup final with a broken finger, and has been out of action since. However, he has declared himself fit and resumed training, and said that he has submitted the fitness certificate too.

"I still don't know where exactly I've gone wrong after being India's highest wicket-taker in ODIs since my comeback in 2009," he told PTI. "Also, till the Pakistan match in which I fractured my finger, I didn't have any major injury issues."

Since his comeback, Nehra has been MS Dhoni's go-to man during the batting Powerplay overs and when the slog is on in the final few overs. "Please check the records, which India bowler has bowled maximum number of overs at the death in last two years," Nehra said.

Although infamous for his recurring injuries, Nehra enjoyed a fairly consistent run in the team for two years after his comeback, before he injured his finger attempting a low catch from Misbah-ul-Haq in the World Cup semi-final. He did have a rib injury in between, but that only cost him IPL appearances.

The World Cup semi-final against Pakistan, in which Nehra bowled 10 overs for 33 runs and two wickets, has turned out to be his last to date. He fractured the bones of his right fingers in five places and subsequently had to have surgery in Australia that required bone grafts - parts of bone were taken from his wrist and grafted onto his fingers.

He skipped the IPL due to the injury, and was not picked for the ODIs against England in September. "I had submitted a fitness certificate before the ODI series in England," he said. "I was ignored even when they summoned RP Singh from a holiday [as a replacement for Zaheer Khan]." Nehra's fingers are now taped most of the time and the worst of them is bent, but he has been able to bowl at full tilt around four times a week in the last month and a half.

He was not named in the squads for the Challenger Trophy, a domestic tournament featuring India's best one-day talent, which begins on October 10. This, he said, had left him with very little chance of proving form and fitness, and he would rather play limited-overs cricket instead of a full-fledged first-class season, which could take a toll on his body. "You want me to prove my fitness, but then I am not even good enough to be in any of the Challenger Trophy teams.

"Now, if I don't have an option, I might have to pick and choose and play Ranji Trophy. If the board allows it, I can go and play in the Big Bash [Australia's domestic Twenty20] or Pro-40 [South Africa's 40-over competition."

Why haven't Dravid use media to make a comeback to ODI squad.Nehra has every right to ask for a place in team as he lead the pace attack for last 2 years while zaheer suffered regular injuries.

Y nt consider Rajat Bhatia,he is a gud allrounder n is 31 and can play for atleast 4 years. His first class batting avg is 47 higher than raina and list A batting average of 35 which is v.gud considering the way he bats much lower down the order.and we all knw he is a gud bowler as suggested by Ipl and first class bowling average of 29 only.We keep crying 4 Irfan who hasnt played cricket except Ipl for over an year. The talent of Murali Kartik was wasted n we r nw doin same 4 Bhatia and Ojha.Bhatia is anyday better bowler and batsman than Jaddu/Vinay who keep getting chances.

Wow. A guy who was an integral part of the WC victory and someone who has been our best ODI bowler for the last 2 years, and he has been reduced to pleading his case through the media. Very sad. Ok, he was injured and needs match practice before coming into the India team, but at least select him for one of the Challenger teams. Come on selectors, do the right thing. Better late than never. Pls select him for the Challengers.

Long term, I wouldn't want Nehra in the team and would support Ishant over him to start training Ishant for future. He is 32 and for a fast medium bowler, one usually retires in 3-4 years. His frequent injuries is also a negative for him, so would not call him up unless an ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY. This is where the problem lays. India in England was an EMERGENCY. Why RP Singh was picked over Nehra? If you asked me, I would have thought he was still injured...... Definitely not fair

Nehra is 100% correct and he should have selceted to indian squad. I dont understand the use of Vinay kumar ...!!!

Nehra should definitely have got a chance in the England ODI's after proving his fitness.Atleast the selectors could have picked him for the Challenger Trophy. He is a true team man and a ton better than Vinay Kumar who bowls 120 kmph lollypops with no swing.Honestly I'll be annoyed if Vinay plays ahead of Umesh and Aaron in the England Series. And for people who are ridiculing Nehra for not playing in Ranji and choosing BBL and Pro40 first understand 2 points:1.He is injury prone and he himself knows he can't last 4 days on the field. He played his last Ranji game 3 years back and has retired from the longer format. 2.With Srikkanth and his bunch of Jokers not picking him either for ODI's or even the Challenger Trophy despite him bowling well consistently since his comeback and having proven his fitness he has no other choice. After all he has to secure his financial future.

just 1 simple question, why vinay kumar, varun aaron, umesh yadav and arvind and why not nehra, irfan pathan, balaji and ajit agarkar?

The selectors should make it clear to Nehra if he fits into their plans or not, or else let him play elsewhere. Then again, since he can only be a good bowler, I am not sure he would be welcome in Australia and SA, where things like fielding are actually taken seriously. Whatever sympathy I had for Nehra was wiped away by his other declarations. If he feels bad about playing a whole season because he is unfit, who's to say he would be fit enough to bowl his full quota in a ODI? I am not even talking about bowling WELL here..The World Cup happened 6 months ago dude...if you expect that you should suddenly be given priority after coming back from injury, you must be joking...fitness certificates don't mean anything...a lot of our players must have given such certificates before the England tour...the results are all there for us to see...Nehra cannot bat AND field....do we need another guy like this in a team already bursting with NATURALLY TALENTED BAD FIELDERS? I don't think so..

Nehra is a better bowler than Vinay Kumar. Vinay Kumar was totally ineffective in the most seam friendly conditions in England. On the subcontinent pitches, he will be fodder. I have not seen Arvind so I cant comment on his inclusion. Even Praveen Kumar with all swing he has could prove to be ineffective on Indian pitches.
