Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai will be without their captain Ajit Agarkar for the Irani Cup match against Rest of India because the fast bowler was ruled out with a groin injury. Allrounder Abhishek Nayar will lead the team instead.
"Agarkar has been ruled out of the match because of a groin injury, which he picked up during the final," Nitin Dalal , the Mumbai Cricket Association's joint secretary, said. "The team will be led by Abhishek Nayar, but there won't be any replacement for Ajit."
Agarkar had taken 4 for 15 in nine overs in the second innings of the Ranji Trophy final against Saurashtra, which Mumbai won by an innings and 125 runs to claim their 40th title. He took 17 wickets at an average of 25 in seven matches this season, and also scored a hundred in the semi-final against Services in Delhi.
Virender Sehwag will lead the Rest of India team in the Irani Cup match, which will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from February 6.

A real shame as Agarkar deserved to lead the champions out against ROI, and even embarrass a few top order batsmen from the opposition. I don't understand why there won't be a replacement tho, here's hoping they include JJ Khan and Waigankar instead of Tahkur who was very poor in the Final.
Aah... I am waiting eagerly for Feb-06 to see him play. It is a real shame that he brought the coveted Ranji trophy to Mumbai with his leadership and now he is not available. Now there is no interest on the match. Miss you Ajit.
Posted by aakkil on (February 5, 2013, 8:52 GMT)now sehwag can make run against a poor attack. Really expected to see a good contest
Posted by Vishu03 on (February 5, 2013, 6:05 GMT)Big loss for Mumbai.. he could have been handly with the new ball and especially against the likes of Sehwag, who stuggles against swing!
Posted by PuneWarriorsWorld on (February 5, 2013, 4:20 GMT)Agarkar was brilliant this season. He led from the front and was truly inspirational. Its a shame that he won't be able to play.
