The best league stage match. Overseas batting: Gayle/ABD/Rossouw vs M&M + Bailey. On form 1-0 Punjab. Set 2(Overseas bowling) Starc is getting the swinging toe crusher yorker well while Mitchie is still not at his best. Scores level 1-1. Third set (Indian batting) Even though Yuvi is not in form, one man Kohli is enough to overcome Viru/Mandeep/Saha. 2-1 Bangalore. Set 4(Indian bowling). Aaron will struggle in Bangalore pitches as his sheer pace, without lateral movement, is more of a disadvantage but the real story is Sandeep Sharma with his swing clearly wins the set; 2-2. Final set (other factors): Bangalore has the home advantage but the cool and calm Bailey will outweigh Kohli's inexperience, so going in to the tie breaker Punjab is more relaxed, has the winning momentum vs almost a must win match for Bangalore puts that extra pressure. So, Punjab wins the tie break. Whatever the outcome, as a CSK supporter, I will enjoy this match with a glass of wine! Hope it does not rain!!

I am a Bangalore fan, but that was a no ball that got rid of Miller, and i dont understand why it was allowed.

I do hope Kholi and the gang can over haul this massive total of almost 200 runs to win, Kholi and Yuvi are due some runs, Gayle is due a hundred.

    Let the chase begin.

Don't under estimate the RCB or yuvi. yuvi definitely score 60+ with 200 strike rate only if he comes 1st down or opening. coz at present he is unable to take the pressure in middle order. RCB rocs today

I know Madeep Singh has only had one game and it would be unfair to drop him, but he's been in a bit of a rut lately, even in the domestic season. He has talent and deserves to get a go based on his past contributions but I feel like Punjab could do that after they get into the play-offs. Right now, Manan Vohra is A) in better form and B) looks much better on the crease. Also, Vohra is much more aggressive than Mandeep Singh. I feel like Sehwag is still holding back a bit and he needs someone to rotate the strike around him and keep the pressure up at the other end. This is why Gambhir and Tendulkar partnered him well. They consistently gave him the strike and never got bogged down themselves. It might be worth it to give Vohra a go and this is based on form alone. I am sure Mandeep can do this as well.

Being In Bangalore The Weather Doesn't Seem To Be That Nice So I Don't Think We Will Get A Complete Game Today,I Would Fancy My Team RCB To Beat Kings XI Today,We Do Have That Home Advantage But It All Depends Who Performs Well On That Day The Way AB Batted Out Sunrisers The Previous Game Played Here...RCB FOR LIFE

  • POSTED BY android_user on | May 9, 2014, 5:31 GMT

I think panjab is going to win this match. today its virendra sehwags day he will score a quick fire 80 atleast on the other hand maxy and miller will play the role of finisher. it looks like rain can came in to play bating 2nd is a advantage here. the ground is also not so big so batting 2nd is good choice. after all its a batsman paradise so chasing wll be easy. panjab win the toss bowl first and get gayle early half match win and restrict them under 150 and game is yors it quite simple. get back in pujara he is as solid as piller in top order nice to see him bat with his claasy style very elegent through the cover. viru pa ji its your show time to show the selectors and world that lion never get older there is lot of cricket left in u. panjab dont worry about gayle strom jhonson is going to get rid of him. gayle will be clean bowld by jhonson. today in chinaaswamy there wll be no gayle strom only maxwell. miller.sehwag and baileys tsunami. go panjab go. and crush r.c.b. all thebest

It is generally believed that 20/20 cricket is a batsman;s game. The truth is that a batsman is only as good as the bowlers allow him to be. In my opinion every bowler should have only one mantra. That is every ball bowled will be such that the batsman has to risk getting out while attempting to score. A team can defend even very low scores if the bowlers adhered to this basic principle

  • POSTED BY android_user on | May 9, 2014, 5:10 GMT

what IF maxwell and miller open the innings and play 20 overs!!!!!

  • POSTED BY Marcel_Ci on | May 9, 2014, 5:07 GMT

with too much dependency on gayle & ABD & virat out of form currently... it wil b vry dificult for rcb to beat punjab this time & quality for playoffs in this season. i remember kohli quoted befor start of tournament that they wil win the trophy this time. there seems no hope to win trophy. in this season rcb stands nowhere near top playing teams like csk punjab & rr. i don't think rcb wil qualify for play offs if they loose 1-2 matches more.

Punjab is looking stronger that it actually is , only because of Maxwell and to some extent Miller. Most teams with all their illustrious coaches do not seem to have a plan for these two, especially Maxwell. It is not that spin is not effective against Maxwell. The fact is the spinners have forgotten the main principle of spin bowling, the flight. Unless the ball is flighted , it is practically impossible to beat the batsman in the air. All spinners in this IPL with probably the exception if Harbajan have been bowling flat and on the leg stump hoping to cramp batsmen. With lesser batsmen this ploy succeeds to a large extent. But for an inform batsmen like Maxwell, all such balls are zero risk balls which can be dispatched to the fence. Bhajji could get Maxwell early only because the flighted ball caused Maxwell to misjudge the length and resulted in a miscued hit. Hope people in the know realize this fast.

RCB Bangalore will have to do overtime to advance into the last 4 of This season. A very likely team which was expected to do well flopped in between mainly due to the failure of Chris Gayle. The Gayle gale of the last edition when he scored 175 on his own is absent this season. Being 6th in the Points Table & needing to win at least 5 of their next 7 matches with high margin to cover the run rate deficiency is not easy but next to impossible. Herculian Task from Kohli,Gayle& De Villers is just one remedy to overcome the resistance caused from their previous outings. As far as Mohali T20 is concerned ,they are sitting pretty with every advantage in the books. Thanks to MAXMILLS combination. Rains ,a threatening factor for RCB in this Mach schedules for 9th May at home Ground Chinnaswamy Stadium

Start time 2000 local (1430 GMT)

Where they stand

Kings XI Punjab: First, with 12 points from seven games
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Sixth with six points from seven games

Big Picture

With three wins in seven games, Royal Challengers Bangalore have plenty of catching up to do. After their defeat to Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, captain Virat Kohli said they needed to win at least five of their next seven to qualify for the playoffs. The good news is Royal Challengers are playing their next three games in Bangalore, where they have a strong record. The potential bad news? The weather. Rains have hit the city over the last couple of days and if the evening rain continues, there could be a truncated game.

Royal Challengers were set to chase more than they should have against Mumbai, due to the number of extras (25, including 12 wides). Having been set 188, they took the challenge to Mumbai at 94 for 1 near the halfway stage, but their second block of ten overs did not pan out so well. AB de Villiers was not as fortunate with the ramp shot like in the other night against Dale Steyn, and following his departure and Kohli's in quick succession, the fight was all but over. Back on home turf, however, Royal Challengers can be a handful. That is if the weather cooperates.

Kings XI Punjab went back to the top of the table after blanking out Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday by posting 231. While their batsmen have hogged the attention, their coach Sanjay Bangar gave due credit to the bowlers, pointing to the number of times they had taken ten wickets. Kings XI have achieved this twice and in their last game against Royal Challengers, they claimed eight. It is hard at this point to pick holes on Kings XI. The only thing that could bring them down is complacency.

Watch out for

Gayle v Maxwell - When the teams last met in Dubai, the same contest was a dud. Both players didn't last longer than seven balls each. But both have shown that the size of the ground hardly matters, and at the Chinnaswamy, even spectators at the highest tier can't afford to nod off. Gayle has shown a weakness against swing with the new ball. Maxwell ripped into Super Kings' spinners so Royal Challengers may look to test him with pace.

Yuvraj Singh has had only one match-winning knock in seven games and his price tag is still weighing on him. Against Mumbai, Royal Challengers' hopes rested on him after de Villiers and Kohli departed, but he could only manage 6 off 10 balls. But Royal Challengers have kept their faith in him, knowing how he has shrugged off criticism with career-defining knocks in the past. But will they be willing to extend the rope?

Stats and trivia

  • Out of 37 IPL games played at the Chinnaswamy, Royal Challengers have won 20. Last season alone, they won seven home games and their only defeat was against Kings XI
  • Glenn Maxwell's 435 runs so far have come at a enormous strike-rate of 203.27. That's more than two runs per ball

Previous encounter

The teams last met in Dubai where Royal Challengers posted a below-par 124 for 8. They were done in by a combination of swing from Sandeep Sharma and reckless batting from the top order. Kings XI were in a spot of bother at 88 for 5 before George Bailey and Rishi Dhawan saw them home by five wickets.

Quotes

"We are really pleased to have George in the leadership role and he has made a lot of effort in getting to know the local boys. So the dressing room atmosphere is very good at the moment."
Kings XI coach Sanjay Bangar on captain George Bailey

"I haven't recovered fully. Still having some discomfort at this point in time, so I am just trying to monitor things as I go on."
Chris Gayle on his fitness
