Finch to replace Clarke for Pune Warriors

ESPNcricinfo staff

Aaron Finch will replace Michael Clarke in the Pune Warriors squad for the sixth IPL season after Clarke was ruled out of the entire season with a back injury. Finch, another top-order batsman, tweeted the development and is expected to leave for India on Saturday.

Finch will be joining his third IPL franchise after playing for Rajasthan Royals in 2010 and Delhi Daredevils in 2011 and 2012. He was released by Delhi in November 2012 and went unsold in the auction on February 3 at a base price of $200,000.

He represents Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League and averaged 66.40 in eight matches last season, scoring 332 runs with a highest score of 111 not out. However, he scored only 4, 7 and 1 for Australia in the three T20Is in January against Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Overall, he has scored 1699 runs in 58 domestic T20 matches at 36.14 with a strike-rate of 130.49.

The Warriors will be captained by Angelo Mathews this season.

Aaron finch is good replacement for injured Michael Clarke, but i think T20 Specialist like Alex Hales would have been great signing. It would have had bought more experience up the order for Pune.Aaron has not played many matches for Australia in T20.While hales on the other hand, has become regular opener for England T20 side...! But still,Good luck to Aaron Finch...!

So many Australian players, coaches and fans too. I wonder if they show IPL matches in Australia? Is it not late night in Australia when they start the matches at 8:00 PM in India?

It will be tough for Pune to pick there 4 foreign players but its a a problem of plenty so its a good problem to have...Acc.2 me 11 players that Pune should play... Wright Uthappa Samuels Yuvraj Taylor/Smith Matthews(C) Nayar Rasool/ishwar pandey Bhuveneshwar kumar Dinda Rahul Sharma They hav got an excellent batting line up if they want to strengthen their bowling ine up they can play ajantha mendis in place of Wright or Smith/taylor......Hopefully they will make it count this season

Pune has a good team this time..Cant wait for the IPL to start. I think Samuels,Mathews, Taylor would be first choice. the other spot would be smith/wright/finch in that order.

@TnAmarkFromIndia Thank you and I'm well aware of that.. but my point was to give examples of players who have performed well in Australia but not done well in India.

Leaving that aside, Finch has a good chance to make a mark the same way how Shane Watson did in inaugural edition.

blessing in disguise. Clark is not good T20 player. Finch is way better in that format.

Good signing by Pune. I thought it was out of Finch, Birt or Voges. They went with Finch. I'm expecting the Warriors to have a good IPL. Any team with Samuels and Yuvraj is going to be hard to beat.

@SamRoy - That is a very ill-informed comment. Faulkner will play for RR and de Kock will play for SRH. It's funny how you've hyped up Quinton de Kock. I can name many 20-year old batsmen better than him that you wouldn't have even heard of. Regarding Hales, I suggest you read this article to know the reason behind no franchise picking him -
