Aaron Finch will replace Michael Clarke in the Pune Warriors squad for the sixth IPL season after Clarke was ruled out of the entire season with a back injury. Finch, another top-order batsman, tweeted the development and is expected to leave for India on Saturday.

Finch will be joining his third IPL franchise after playing for Rajasthan Royals in 2010 and Delhi Daredevils in 2011 and 2012. He was released by Delhi in November 2012 and went unsold in the auction on February 3 at a base price of $200,000.

He represents Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League and averaged 66.40 in eight matches last season, scoring 332 runs with a highest score of 111 not out. However, he scored only 4, 7 and 1 for Australia in the three T20Is in January against Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Overall, he has scored 1699 runs in 58 domestic T20 matches at 36.14 with a strike-rate of 130.49.

The Warriors will be captained by Angelo Mathews this season.

Aaron finch is good replacement for injured Michael Clarke, but i think T20 Specialist like Alex Hales would have been great signing. It would have had bought more experience up the order for Pune.Aaron has not played many matches for Australia in T20.While hales on the other hand, has become regular opener for England T20 side...! But still,Good luck to Aaron Finch...!

It will be tough for Pune to pick there 4 foreign players but its a a problem of plenty so its a good problem to have...Acc.2 me 11 players that Pune should play... Wright Uthappa Samuels Yuvraj Taylor/Smith Matthews(C) Nayar Rasool/ishwar pandey Bhuveneshwar kumar Dinda Rahul Sharma They hav got an excellent batting line up if they want to strengthen their bowling ine up they can play ajantha mendis in place of Wright or Smith/taylor......Hopefully they will make it count this season

Pune has a good team this time..Cant wait for the IPL to start. I think Samuels,Mathews, Taylor would be first choice. the other spot would be smith/wright/finch in that order.

  • POSTED BY on | March 30, 2013, 13:29 GMT

@TnAmarkFromIndia Thank you and I'm well aware of that.. but my point was to give examples of players who have performed well in Australia but not done well in India.

Leaving that aside, Finch has a good chance to make a mark the same way how Shane Watson did in inaugural edition.

blessing in disguise. Clark is not good T20 player. Finch is way better in that format.

Good signing by Pune. I thought it was out of Finch, Birt or Voges. They went with Finch. I'm expecting the Warriors to have a good IPL. Any team with Samuels and Yuvraj is going to be hard to beat.

@SamRoy - That is a very ill-informed comment. Faulkner will play for RR and de Kock will play for SRH. It's funny how you've hyped up Quinton de Kock. I can name many 20-year old batsmen better than him that you wouldn't have even heard of. Regarding Hales, I suggest you read this article to know the reason behind no franchise picking him - http://www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2013/content/story/598084.html

I would say....good buy, he is better than Clark, particularly in T20 format. Clark is not a good t20 player.

  • POSTED BY TNAmarkFromIndia on | March 30, 2013, 7:58 GMT

@Dylan Dpc Steve Smith was uncapped I believe when he impressed everyone in IPL 2012 and played some crucial innings for the Pune Warriors. Shaun Marsh was uncapped in the first IPL when he became the tournament's highest run-getter.

  • POSTED BY on | March 30, 2013, 7:05 GMT

Not a bad choice but it could be a risk. Many Australian t20 players who are uncapped or those capped in few matches haven't succeeded in IPL. Aiden Blizzard, Aaron Finch to name a few. If Pune Warriors' outcome is same as last 2 seasons then a lot of blame could come on players like Mathews, Finch, etc. However it is good challenge for Finch and if he succeeds it can help him gain a place in Australian t20 squad and in future ODIs and maybe tests as well.

gud buy..bt i cant say it as excellent.coz he hardly founds a place in playingXI..they hav a lot of middle order batsmens and allrounders..they should hav gone with doug bollinger.as their overseas pace attack is not that much dependabale..anways pune has very good team when compare to previous two editions...dont make silly mistakes...these tym they hav a lot of chances to win ipl championship..

    my first playing XI:1.uthappa 2.wright/tamim 3.samuels 4.yuvi 5.taylor 6.mathews 7.nayar 8.parwezzrasool 9.bhuveneshwar 10.dinda 11.rahulsharma...

they dont even need a foriegn pace bowler...parwezz raool has got a lot of potential..he is goona make it big in this ipl...come on pwi...

@ SamRoy...Faulkner is playing for Rajasthan Royals

  • POSTED BY PFEL on | March 30, 2013, 6:27 GMT

Finch is a much better T20 player than Clarke anyway

  • POSTED BY SamRoy on | March 30, 2013, 4:39 GMT

Most of the IPL sides are very stupid. Nobody took people like Alex Hales, James Faulkner, Darren Bravo and Quinton De Kock was only purchased at the last moment. Young, extremely talented overseas cricketers are actually bargain buys and can be match winners for your team. Surely these youngsters have more cricket and current ability (not ability five years back) than oldies like Gilchrist, Ponting and Tendulkar.

  • POSTED BY Sano27 on | March 30, 2013, 2:08 GMT

no matter who will be added into the squad....pune wont make it to the semifinals....they lack good quality players who can win the match for them alone (even yuvraj is there) & also they fail as a team...

I really like to see PWI play regular wk rather than Robin Uthappa. And they should play T.Iqbal. My playing 11 would be : Dheeraj Jadhav Tamim Iqbal Manish Pandey Luke Wright / Ross Taylor Yuvraj Singh Eklavya Dwivedi Steven Smith Angelo Mathews Bhuvneshwar Kumar Parvez Rasool Ashok Dinda

  • POSTED BY on | March 29, 2013, 20:15 GMT

@Dhinesh Raj i agree with you that george bailey would be better option than than finch to replace and mathews to replace as captain. I think they should buy a good w/k in order to move up the tournament, because last year w/k ing of uthappa was below par and he dropped many crucial catches which cost them in the end.

    1. Aaron Finch 2. Robin Uthappa 3. Luke Wright 4. Yuvraj Singh 5. Ross Taylor 6. Abhishek Nayar 7. Angelo Mathews (c) 8. Pervez Rasool 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar 10. Ishwar Pandey 11. Ashok Dinda

Fantastic addition to PWI lineup, but will not get to play in all the matches. The most probable lineup wll be 1.Manish Pandey/Suman,2.Finch/Wright,3.Yuvraj,4.Uthappa,5.Samuels/Parnell,6.Smith,7.Abhishek Nayar/Manhas,8.Parvez Rassol,9.Bhuvneshwar Kumar,10.Rahul Sharma,11.Ashoke Dinda.Even they should try to sign KL Rahul and Sreenath Aravind.

  • POSTED BY on | March 29, 2013, 16:09 GMT

fantastic buy! Finch is a very dangerous opening batsmen, great fielder and useful part time bowler. great job Pune!

  • POSTED BY TNAmarkFromIndia on | March 29, 2013, 15:39 GMT

They should've bought him in the auctions itself. He's a better T20 player than Clarke. But I guess the advantage is that they got a bargain out of it and were able to buy him at base price. Finch on his day could be dangerous as he had shown in the Big Bash. Fantastic buy.

  • POSTED BY Thefakebook on | March 29, 2013, 15:17 GMT

Finch is a better T20 player than MJ Clarke but I don't know if he'll play in the starting XI regularly unless someone has bad injury or form!

No way... that manish pandey, mithun minhas, rasool and ross taylor are going to make in playing 11 ... no offense!!! . Clarke's absence is good fir them because sometimes team finds it difficult to bench a big gun. On paper PWI is looking most balanced side right now. And yes Finch is a super buy. My playing 11: 1.Luke wright/Finch 2. Robin Uthappa (wk) 3.Marlon Samuels 4. Yuvraj Singh 5. Angelo Mathews (c) 6.Abhishek Nayar 7.Steve smith 8. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar 9.Rahul sharma/Ali Murtaza 10.Ashok dinda 11.Ishwar Pandey Last selection may be bit biased bcos I am from MP....OK srikanth wagh is an option. Cummmon PWI you can easily win this season...just don't make silly selection like before. I have full faith and support for you.....I have done this before for CSK and KKR resptvly and I am going to do this time for PWI.
