PCB to appoint batting coach

48

The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to appoint a full-time batting coach and has advertised for the post on its website. The role of batting coach is currently being handled by the head coach, Dav Whatmore, with the coaching staff also including Julien Fountain (fielding) and Mohammad Akram (bowling).

The advertisement calls for candidates with at least Level III coaching accreditation, and at least five years' experience working with top cricketers. The deadline for applying is November 4.

Pakistan cricket teams have generally had plenty of quality bowling options to depend on, and the batting has been seen as the weaker department. The idea of having a batting coach has been circulating for last three years, but it didn't get the PCB's approval till now. This is the first time the PCB is looking to appoint a full-time batting coach. Previously, Geoff Boycott, Javed Miandad and Basit Ali had short stints as consultants during cricket camps.

After the exit of Ijaz Butt as PCB chairman last year, his successor, Zaka Ashraf, planned to recruit a specialist coaching panel covering batting, bowling and fielding but ended up appointing Whatmore with the additional responsibilities of batting coach. The decision to hire a separate batting coach has been taken this week after a detailed review of Pakistan's performance at the World Twenty20, where the team reached the semi-final only to lose to Sri Lanka by 16 runs while chasing a target of 140.

Pakistan's next assignment is the tour of India, to plasy a series of three ODI and two Twenty20s, followed by the South Africa tour that begins next February.

Pakistan need a good fast bowling coach not a batting coach. what is Dave watmore for? Pakistan is having fast bowling issues since amir has gone. waqar was doing good job especially for bowlers.

Michael Bevan only. If someone still have a working mind in PCB than Bevan will be appointed.

Pakistan DO not need many coaches, they need educated players and a psychologist who can convince them playing just for country to the best of their ability. One more important thing is that there is huge talent in Pakistani streets and if PCB honestly chose, groom and apply the merit based selection Pakistan can rule the cricket world for decades...

Pakistan need Chappel as he can discipline these players like he did in India and India beat Aussies at home with ease.

Get Bevan, Steve Waugh, Rahul Dravid, any of the three will be just perfect for Pakistan, I know Dravid will never come to Pakistan but still even Jayasuriya will be a good option if he is willing for the job, Pakistan team needs a batting coach who has an amazing record couz thats how Pakistan media and people mentality is and they will never question the coach work, and by the way I think Dav is a perfect head coach for Pakistan. and please do not get any local coach otherwise he will do Politics against Dav to become a head coach. just let this team work for few years and you will see the difference.

This post will only be filled properly by Micheal Bevan. he's calm and sober, and Pak needs his services badly for youngster like umar akmal, asad shafiq. he's fit with Misbah ul haq because both are calm and have a best cricketing mind.

Pcb should stick with whatmore, players like haffez will necer learn how to play t 20, blame hafeez and pcb for the technical flaws that he has. All pakistani bstsmen need is to learn how to play under pressure and take time on the crease they should be good.

Dav Watmore is great coach for Pakistan Team, so no need for batting coach. It bad luck when players like kaka Hafeez not listen to coach. PCB should open eyes and stop playing around & do following action. Selections team should be changed now. Majid Khan should be chairperson of selection team. PCB should kickoff trash players forever etc. Shoail Tanvir, Yasir Arafat, Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul, M. Sami. Bring back Junaid Khan, Wahab Raiz, and RAZZAK as CAPT.

Pak definitely needs a "Qualified" batting coach. Just because some one was a good cricketer does not mean he will be a good batting coach. Prime example is boxing where all the top coaches have never been boxers themselves. Most teams around the world have full coaching staff plus a head coach. It's surprising that Pak never had a full time batting coach despite batting a major weakness. Despite that Pak has for some reason produced battng greats like Zaheer, Miandad, Inzi, Yousf, Younis and now potentially quality test batsmen like Azhar and Shafiq!!
