At Benoni, controversy greeted Gauteng as they arrived with their second stingers to take on Easterns. Easterns took full advantage of the situation by racing away to 405 for 4 with the two de Bruyn's, Pierre and Zander, sharing a record-partnership of 244 for Easterns and made the bowlers toil in the sun. At close Gauteng had managed 35 for 1 when bad light stopped play.
