Pakistan will play two Tests and three ODIs in Sri Lanka in August, officials from both boards have confirmed. No tour dates have yet been set in stone, but Pakistan is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka in late July for a tour match before the internationals begin early in the following month.

For Sri Lanka, the tour will be the third in quick succession, following an away tour of England, and the home series against South Africa. Neither the Pakistan series nor the South Africa tour had been prescribed for 2014 by the Future Tours Programme - though the Tests against South Africa had been deferred from last year.

Pakistan were facing a six-month drought ahead of their next international fixtures after the World T20. But the PCB managed to strike up a quick deal with Sri Lanka Cricket on the sidelines of the ICC meeting in Dubai to narrow the gap. The series will kick off a busy season for them, with full series' with Australia and New Zealand shortly after in the UAE.

With these two Tests, both Sri Lanka and Pakistan will bring their 2014 tally to nine Tests, provided all matches are played as scheduled.

It will also be the second time the teams have squared off in a bilateral series in eight months, after Sri Lanka played three Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20s in the UAE in December and January. They had also played each other in two Asia Cup fixtures. The teams had shared the Test series in the UAE, while Sri Lanka had won their previous Test series in Sri Lanka 1-0.

Pakistan have played Sri Lanka five series in the past five years with home and away series in 2009, followed by Pakistan hosting Sri Lanka in 2011 and touring Sri Lanka in 2012.

Hopefully this series will be telecast in India, so it won't be a total financial failure :)

Out of all cricketing nations Srilanka and Australia are trusted friends of Pak and Aussies went a step further to play Pak in UAE in blazing heat to prove the fact. No doubt Pak team has a great power to pull fans to stadiums and that is why Cricketing world wants them to be on the stage. Sirilanka are true and most reliable friend any country can have. As Bangladesh has sided with India and got fruit of Asia Cup and T20 Pak and Srilanka joined hands to support quality cricket in the region. As an Aussie with keen eyes on Cricket I strongly believe that Pak should work on Srilanka to bring back Int cricket in Pakistan rather Bangladesh that has no standing in the Cricket world on one side and will not impact on other teams to visit Pak. So here.. fans of Pak lesson is .. Trust the Trusted... Stay away from the others!!!

Not out of big-three but they are really big in all forms. Cricketing-trinity will not reveal in terms of money or billion masses that represent. Only a few in the middle finally come to the center of attention....

Good move by PCB and thanks to our dear friends Srilankans for accepting and playing with Pk regularly. Hope we will have good series and would also looking forward to see SriLanka team to help us in resuming international cricket in Pakistan.

Good time for Sri lankan cricket . We will be playing 6 tests , 11 ODI s & 1 T20 within next four months . Time for us to better our record in tests and get ready for 2015 WC . Thanks England for tour and welcome both Sputh Africa and pakistan

Amazed at this 2 test match mantra. PCB need to make it a series by making it 3 tests. How often PCB opts for this 2 test series which ends up nowhere.

Posted by   on (April 12, 2014, 3:19 GMT)

@Ian Perera. "Big three" is only with regard to power within the game at the top level with the income they apparently bring in. I don't think anyone seriously believes they are the best three teams.

And you can't just use T20 results to decide who the best team is - particularly matches where both teams were out of the competition anyway. Test cricket is the ultimate and the Aussies are looking like the best team right now. So why you think they can only beat Bangladesh is beyond me!

England are in a bit of a mess but they beat India home and away in their last two series. India are probably the best ODI team though, and the Sri Lankans have proven beyond doubt now that they are the best T20 side.

@sysubrceq0, usually Sri Lanka hosts cricket in July and August because it is dry. Other than from January to March, July and August are the most dry months in Sri Lanka. Look at 2012 July, all games with India were hosted hassle free. If you look at 2011 August, all ODIs and T20s with Australia went through without any rain. Yes the 2nd test was rain hit as it was September.

Oh good, atleast we will have another series. The problem is that all of them are scheduled in asia. The series against Australia and Newzealand should've been in Australia and Newzealand so we could prepare for the World cup. PCB seriously needs to look at this. If they can't schedule one in a month outside asia they should play against associates scheduled in subcontinents. But good work for atlest scheduling this.

tired of seeing the same opposition

Posted by FlatTrakBully on (April 11, 2014, 23:00 GMT)

As it will be monsoon season , most of the games will be washed out. Its better time to tour Pak. Welcome brothers.

Posted by Karachiwala on (April 11, 2014, 22:33 GMT)

Look like August is a wet season in SL. To get the full benefit of this series, PCB and SLC should agree to play either in Pakistan or UAE. I would request SLC to play this series in Pakistan.

Posted by android_user on (April 11, 2014, 21:47 GMT)

well good move from PCB, however they should send an A squad to Australia in December to get a better feel for some players and conditions, most probably captined by Akmal or Fawad or if they r planning to bring Azhar back then him

Posted by android_user on (April 11, 2014, 18:23 GMT)

this deal made in haste can be a washout as august is rainy season in lanka

Posted by sysubrceq0 on (April 11, 2014, 17:19 GMT)

August? Isn't it the monsoon season in SL? most of the games will be washed out.

Posted by t20cric on (April 11, 2014, 16:11 GMT)

With this series Pakistan are now scheduled to play a grand total of 4 tests, 6 ODIs & 1 t20I from now to the 2015 wc & all of these will be played in Asia. SL are true friends & they atleast gave us some more games but it would be nice if we could also tour England, NZ & Australia before the 2015 wc so that the players could get some experience of playing outside of Asia before the world cup. Now that Pakistan have agreed to the big 3 I hope they will get more games this year.

Posted by   on (April 11, 2014, 15:12 GMT)

How big is this BIG THREE?Australia doesn't seem to prove anything in cricket after their downfall, lucky they're still fit enough to beat Bangladesh....And,England?Well,what about them?Maybe one thing;they can't drop the habit of loosing against the associate,Netherlands...Well,it doesn't matter. They've got every other test playing team to try against.India has been the only formidable team among the BIG THREE.So,how big is this three or at least those two?

Posted by Jda123 on (April 11, 2014, 15:04 GMT)

SL vs Pak are boring enough and now we have to see it more often,

Expect a draw Test Series and 2-1 win to SL in the ODI.

Posted by shahnoor-haque on (April 11, 2014, 15:00 GMT)

Well it should be exciting series because srilankan cricket is my second home team after pakistan.Respect from pak:)

Posted by Blade-Runner on (April 11, 2014, 14:37 GMT)

IMO that's too much cricket between Sri Lanka 'n Pakistan. It seems that they play against each other every fortnight. Anyway, Sri Lanka are scheduled to play 8 test matches 20+ ODI's till the end of this year and its great for us. 2 test/5 odis vs. ENG, 2 test/3 odis vs SA , 2 test/3 odi vs PAK , 2 test/5 odis vs NZ and a tri series in BAN. Great !!!

Posted by Ramansilva on (April 11, 2014, 14:16 GMT)

Sri Lanka-Pakistan series are much better than Sri Lanka-India series. We can watch how our new breed of players will play against great bowlers like Gul and Ajamal instead of the mediocre bowlers of India.

A Pak v SL series. Wow, we haven't seen that for a while have we!

A watershed in an almost 6 months lull in Pakistan cricket!

More to come since PCB has announced it's support to Big 3 today !

Posted by CricStaah on (April 11, 2014, 13:42 GMT)

Another Pakistan vs Sri Lanka series yipee. Pak should be thankful though as knowone else seems to want to play them anymore! Should give the boys some much needed practice against the Asia Cup/T20 champs! Hope the go with the right attitude and realise that they have the earn the status of being a star - you cant just claim to be great without actually producing any performances

Posted by Shakirrehman on (April 11, 2014, 12:53 GMT)

Well that's Sound Great, I think the credit goes to the Both boards they've Given Some Cricket to Pakistani players & supporters.

Posted by rk_ks on (April 11, 2014, 12:39 GMT)

@nickexplore : World's best batsmen Sanga. SL fans bashed Sachin when scored a ton against BD, but the same SL fans rated Sanga as the greatest in the universe when he scored against the same BD. You guys know how overrate a player. He is certainely great in modern era and he is on par with Lara or Sachin. But certainley his the not the greatest of all time.

Posted by espncricinfomobile on (April 11, 2014, 12:02 GMT)

Oh come on please make it 3 tests or 5 ODI's. What's the point otherwise

Posted by wapuser on (April 11, 2014, 11:39 GMT)

Must be played 5 ODI's 2 T20I's

Posted by Aroundthelegsgoogly on (April 11, 2014, 11:27 GMT)

Great. Last time Pak played SL was in 2012 in SL. Of course we are all desperate to see another series between them. Never mind a away series against England or West Indies or New Zealand. Let's go to Sri Lanka again. Perhaps from there Pakistan can go play a series against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Posted by   on (April 11, 2014, 11:21 GMT)

So finaly we will play some Cricket

Posted by android_user on (April 11, 2014, 11:13 GMT)

Good news for Pakistan cricket and fans* thanks SCB

Posted by Bilal77 on (April 11, 2014, 11:02 GMT)

its good for both Asian teams for good practice in preparation against other countries. am wish, atleast T20 matches must also include in this series.

Posted by keptalittlelow on (April 11, 2014, 10:33 GMT)

A friend in need is a friend indeed. Sri Lanka has always stood by Pakistan through thick and thin, even after they were attacked in Pakistan they did not abandon them. This series is more to the advantage of Pakistan than Sri Lanka, Long live this friendship.

Posted by   on (April 11, 2014, 10:32 GMT)

Hope these a Tests will bring rain to SL ... May the will be helpful to fill our tanks.

Posted by Saif_Khan90 on (April 11, 2014, 10:24 GMT)

Well done to the PCB. Some Cricket is at least better than no Cricket. It will keep the players busy and prepare them ahead of the Aussie tour. I don't think, this series will be boring as some folks are muttering. SL will be confident after back to back tournament wins and taking them in their backyard will be tough. Kudos to SL bros, once again for capping off such a wonderful run. Cheers.

Posted by android_user on (April 11, 2014, 10:17 GMT)

Its nice to hear that Pak get a series for getting touch with cricket in this hard time

Posted by rrockinss2 on (April 11, 2014, 9:51 GMT)

.... and those will be washed out by the rain.

Posted by mzm149 on (April 11, 2014, 9:41 GMT)

Oh no not another Pakistan Sri Lanka series. Bored of watching them. Want a series with England or India.

Posted by xylofon on (April 11, 2014, 8:25 GMT)

The two best T20 sides will not meet each other at all in the shortest format? WHY???

Its real nice to see some news for Pakistan playing and SL are great opponents but they have a lot to take away from playing T20 against each other. Last time Pak had a chance to go nr1 in the rankings and failed and SL were quite happy proving a point by protecting their nr 1 posittion but wheres that action/pride now? 3 T20s at least.

Im totally excited about Pakistan in action but what about the months running up to July? Its almost whole of April, May & June plus part of July until Pak plays again. Thats 3 months +. Why not play in england in the summer for example?

Posted by espncricinfomobile on (April 11, 2014, 8:14 GMT)

Yeah from now on big three will play each other more regularly and other teams will play each other.

Posted by   on (April 11, 2014, 8:04 GMT)

Good news. yes it will be a another series between 2 teams but the last series played in UAE was by no means a dead type of series. More importantly, teams should play more cricket. Pakistan have a long gap and this will help players to get into some shape. If some feel it will be boring then they should simply not watch it. Yes i agree that SL or PAK should play with AUS before WC in AUS but AUS has their own schedule.

Posted by 9ST9 on (April 11, 2014, 8:03 GMT)

3 odi's is perfect - it would have been better if it was a 3Test 3 ODI series. But nevertheless at least the tests are there - so no complains!

Posted by ms2000 on (April 11, 2014, 7:46 GMT)

Wecome Pakistani Brothers to Sri Lanka It should have been a 3 match seriies. still have time for amendments

Posted by NextSana on (April 11, 2014, 7:42 GMT)

We have a New Zealand tour just before the world cup.

Posted by Sinhaya on (April 11, 2014, 7:36 GMT)

Well good idea but too many meetings between the 2 sodes lately. Well should be interesting. Misbah will be 40 plus and hope he performs for Pakistan and hope Kaushal Silva scores heavily.

Posted by nickexplore on (April 11, 2014, 7:22 GMT)

Great news! South Africa in July followed by Pakistan in August. 4 Tests and 6 ODIs in all. Lots of opportunities for SL fans to see the world's best test batsman Sangakkara in action and to salute the World T20 winning squad. For the players lots of ODIs to press their claims for World Cup selection.

Posted by android_user on (April 11, 2014, 7:12 GMT)

well done SLC

Posted by LALITHKURUWITA on (April 11, 2014, 7:09 GMT)

Why can't they organise 3 match series. We automatically drop down to 2nd tier when we see 2 test match series.

Posted by   on (April 11, 2014, 6:40 GMT)

--that is a rainy season in SL

Posted by yorkslanka on (April 11, 2014, 6:07 GMT)

all those who are complaining about this series, do you REALLY think that Australia are interested in playing against us?Surely the fact we get a series from them very 5-7 years tells you something? They are only interested in the matches whihc generate big revenues for them ie. England and India..I think that this is a good option for us to keep match ready against tough opposition. Also dont forget we have a responsibility to help our asian brothers out when they need it due to not having international cricket.well done SLC

Posted by CricketGuru365 on (April 11, 2014, 5:48 GMT)

Why they always set series with no room for deciders? It just kill the interest..

Posted by wapuser on (April 11, 2014, 5:32 GMT)

SLC should try to arange an Australia tour next year close to the world cup. Even few ODIs will do. Somehow, I don't see the seniors contributing heavily to Sri Lanka's cause and the new guys must get some Aussie experience under their belts. Players like Priyanjan, Lakmal, De Silva and Kusal need more experience in those conditions. Also Lahiru and Chandimal will have to do most of the scoring thus need to get re acustomed. Whether SL do well or not in the next WC will depend on the performance of these young players.

Posted by   on (April 11, 2014, 5:05 GMT)

Sri Lanka should play more cricket with Australia in Australia and Sri Lanka, always irs boring to watch Sri Lanka - Pakisthan, Sri Lanka India.
