†AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES 1988-89

At Melbourne, December 15 (day/night)

15-Apr-1990
At Melbourne, December 15 (day/night). West Indies won by 34 runs. Toss: West Indies. After a commanding half-century from Greenidge, and with Richards and Logie taking runs as they came, West Indies reached 160 for three with fifteen of their 50 overs left. Declining then to 203 for eight, they were glad of a ninth-wicket partnership of 32 between Marshall and Ambrose. A target of 237 on the Melbourne ground is usually out of reach, and with Ambrose proving extremely difficult to get away that was the case now. Of the 17 runs Ambrose conceded, while taking five wickets, 6 were accounted for by wides. Australia were not without hope while the Waughs were together. With ten overs left and seven wickets still standing they needed 69. But for the second time in two days Stephen Waugh and Border were both run out while batting with Mark Waugh, a prelude to Australia's last five wickets falling for 18 runs.
Man of the Match: C. E. L. Ambrose. Attendance: 50,535.
