A composed innings from Brad Haddin made sure there would be no hiccups for Australia as the tournament favourites marched into the World Twenty20 semi-finals. In truth, the Aussies were never really in trouble after dismissing the West Indies for a woeful 105.
But there was a brief wobble when David Warner departed for 25 after blasting four boundaries and a huge six over long-on in 12 balls, and Shane Watson played-on to Sulieman Benn in the next over. However, any hope the West Indies may have harboured of causing an upset was snuffed out by Haddin, who took over once he got settled. Haddin finished with 42 off 46, departing a ball before Chris Gayle delivered five wides to end the match.
It took Haddin seven deliveries to get off the mark but there was no urgency chasing a small total. He freed his shoulders with two fours of Dwayne Bravo in the eighth over and dished out the same treatment to Narsingh Deonarine in the 11th over, hitting the bowler through mid-off before pulling him through square leg for consecutive boundaries. It was a stroll from there on as Australia reached their target in the 17th over to give them their fifth straight win in the tournament. Haddin, unfortunately, was not there at their end, falling to Gayle as he tried to force one over the top but only managing to hit it straight to Darren Sammy at mid-on. By then though, his job was done.
