But James Hildreth and Alfonso Thomas added a match-winning 50 for the eighth wicket, ensuring the big hits came at the right time and managing to rotate the strike with regularity to keep their team in the hunt.

In the last over, with five needed to win, Somerset lost two wickets. But the decisive moment came when Scott Styris bowled a full toss off the fourth ball which Thomas slapped past point for a boundary. With one needed off one, Stryis bowled a short delivery which was duly dispatched over the in-field for another four to seal a thrilling win for Somerset.
