†INDIA v AUSTRALIA 1986-87

At New Delhi, October 2

15-Apr-1988
At New Delhi, October 2. India won by three wickets, taking the lead in the one-day series thanks to a powerful innings by Lamba, whose 74 off 68 balls included eight fours and a six. The tactic of bowling first again favoured India, and the Australian innings did not get going until Waugh and Dyer added 102 for the seventh wicket in 12.4 overs. The century stand between Lamba and Vengsarkar gave the Indian innings momentum, and a burst of scoring from Kapil Dev and Shastri, who took 19 runs in a vital over off Matthews, hastened the finish. The Australians' criticism of the delaying tactics, which led to India's bowling only 45 overs in three and a half hours, was certainly warranted.
Man of the Match: R. Lamba.
