India v West Indies

At Dhaka, October 31 (day/night)

15-Apr-2000
At Dhaka, October 31 (day/night). West Indies won by six wickets. Toss: India. International debut: R. D. King.
An innings of self-conscious restraint and responsibility from Lara took West Indies to a thoroughly assured victory. India had fallen into trouble early when Dillon and the debutant King bowled the most effective spells of pace all week. Dillon dismissed both Tendulkar and Azharuddin in his first three overs, and Ganguly waited in vain for a partner who would help him make the scoring-rate even half-respectable until Robin Singh came along.
West Indies, in contrast, blazed away from the start and reached three figures off 15 overs for the second time running. But in a match which featured seven spinners, Lara decided to throttle back the innings and make haste slowly. His main objective in a personal duel with Tendulkar was not to get out to his great batting rival. West Indies were so far ahead of the required rate that this was a reasonable indulgence. Victory came quietly with three overs in hand.
Man of the Match: M. Dillon.
