Sri Lanka v West Indies, 2011

Wisden's review of the second ODI, Sri Lanka v West Indies, 2011

Sa'adi Thawfeeq
15-Apr-2012
At Colombo (SSC), February 3, 2011. Sri Lanka won by eight wickets (D/L method). Toss: Sri Lanka.
More unwelcoming weather threatened to ruin things yet again, but strong winds blew away the clouds following a brief interruption in the 15th over of Sri Lanka's reply, and Tharanga's ninth one- day hundred made light of a revised target of 197 in 47 overs. It was a careful innings - he registered only seven fours in 143 balls - but with Jayawardene more aggressive, hitting five fours in 46 deliveries, Sri Lanka eased home with 27 balls to spare. Tharanga's watchfulness was in contrast to the West Indian effort. On a pitch slowed by rain, four men were dismissed between 21 and 39, although Sarwan was unfortunate to be run out when Herath deflected Darren Bravo's drive on to the stumps. Malinga swung the ball rapidly again, but the tidy Sri Lankan attack and their sharp fielding stifled West Indies just as effectively.
Man of Match: W. U. Tharanga.
