West Indies v Australia 1998-1999

At Bridgetown, April 25

15-Apr-2000
At Bridgetown, April 25. West Indies won by eight wickets (D/L method). Toss: Australia.
Crowd trouble interfered with the series again when spectators hurled bottles on to the field, one narrowly missing Steve Waugh's head. Local fans were enraged when the local boy Campbell, then on 52, was given out by umpire Nicholls. He had collided in mid-pitch with the bowler, Julian, and fell flat on his back while Bevan removed the bails, leaving West Indies 138 for two from 29 overs. As he left the field, the bottles started to arrive, and play was held up for 45 minutes. It eventually resumed when the Australians announced that they would withdraw their appeal against Campbell, after being told that the police could not guarantee their safety if the match was called off.
Ten overs were deducted and West Indies' target revised to 196 from 40 overs (a further 58 from 11) under the Duckworth/Lewis method. Campbell added ten more runs, taking his aggregate for the series to 312, before Adams and Chanderpaul finished the job with three overs in hand. Earlier, Australia had been a shaky 119 for six before the tail, supervised by Moody, added 133. Before the match, Hooper had announced his retirement from international cricket.
