West Indies v England 1997-1998

At Port-of-Spain, April 8

15-Apr-1999
At Port-of-Spain, April 8. West Indies won by 57 runs. Toss: West Indies. International debuts: N. C. McGarrell, C. M. Tuckett.
Returning to Port-of-Spain, West Indies crushed England's campaign with their fourth successive win. They chose to bat for the first time, and Lambert led the way with his maiden century in one-day internationals, scoring 119 from 124 balls, with two sixes and 17 fours. He added 185 in 184 balls with Lara, who just missed his own hundred. Only Fraser could contain the West Indian batting; when Adam Hollioake brought himself on, he conceded 19 in his first over and 14 in his second. England needed six an over to win. Despite Knight, who scored 65 at almost a run a ball, and Ramprakash, contributing his first fifty at this level, they might have lost by a three-figure margin but for Fraser. He hit out for 30 from 17 balls, adding 44 with Croft to reduce the deficit to 57, before he became the third run-out victim of debutant McGarrell.
Man of the Match: C. B. Lambert.
