West Indies v New Zealand

At Port-of-Spain, June 12

15-Apr-2003
At Port-of-Spain, June 12. New Zealand won by nine runs (D/L method). Toss: New Zealand.
Styris's stirring all-round performance sustained his side's interest in the series. He followed a forceful 63 not out with six wickets, the most taken by a New Zealander in a one-day international, and also ran out Cuffy. New Zealand's previous best analysis was Matt Hart's five for 22, also against West Indies, at Margao in 1994-95. Styris and Astle revived the innings from a shaky 90 for five, adding 122 before rain intervened. The Duckworth/Lewis method challenged West Indies to score the same as New Zealand off 11.2 fewer overs. Gayle hit a run-a-ball 60, but when Styris claimed six of the first seven wickets, West Indies were 62 short of their target. Jacobs scored a frenetic 60 off 45 balls to keep the match alive into the last over.
Man of the Match: S. B. Styris.
