At Bridgetown, June 8, 2003. Sri Lanka won by four wickets. Toss: West Indies.
What should have been a cruise for West Indies degenerated into chaos. Sri Lanka were chasing
313, the highest-ever total in a one-day international at Bridgetown, but a belligerent 89 off 71
balls from Chandana put the pressure back on West Indies. In the final overs, their bowlers buckled
under the strain, their fielding grew ragged and Sri Lanka sneaked a series-clinching win with
three balls to spare. West Indies' 312 for four had looked more than enough in light of the lowscoring match the day before. Gayle hit 94, and Lara first ticked along, then exploded, reaching
116 as the last 11 overs produced 136.
Man of the Match: U. D. U. Chandana.
