New Zealand v West Indies, 2013-14

Wisden's review of the fifth ODI, New Zealand v West Indies, 2013-14

15-Apr-2014
At Hamilton, January 8, 2014 (day/night). West Indies by 203 runs. Toss: New Zealand.
Against the odds, West Indies secured an overwhelming victory to square the series after amassing their highest one-day total, surpassing 360 for four against Sri Lanka at Karachi during the 1987 World Cup. Edwards made his maiden one-day century, and Bravo only the second of his 154-match career; they added 211, West Indies' third-highest partnership for any wicket, to build on the rapid start provided by Powell. He zoomed to 73 from 44 balls, with a dozen fours and two sixes - one of which was caught one-handed in the crowd, earning spectator Michael Morton $NZ100,000 as part of a sponsor's competition. Edwards favoured the leg side, where he struck three of his four sixes, while Bravo was a delight to watch when driving straight or through extra cover. In all, the last ten overs produced 117 runs. The contest was effectively settled when New Zealand lost their top five inside 15 overs; slow left-armer Miller, taking advantage of players throwing the bat, helped himself to four wickets.
Man of the Match: D. J. Bravo.
