Australia v New Zealand, 2016-17

Wisden's review of the third ODI, Australia v New Zealand, 2016-17

15-Apr-2017
At Melbourne, December 9, 2016 (day/night). Australia won by 117 runs. Toss: Australia.
In 22 international innings at the MCG, Warner had not managed three figures. In his 23rd, he celebrated the end of that sequence with a signature leap, before going on to 156 off 128 balls. It was his seventh one-day international hundred of the year, and fourth in six innings. Williamson's quirky fields helped keep Australia in check. Yet Warner picked the right moments to attack, and provided the meat of their 264, before being run out off the final ball of the innings. His proportion of the total (59.09%) was the second-highest for Australia in a completed innings, behind Damien Martyn's 60.73% against New Zealand at Auckland in March 2000. On a tricky pitch where some deliveries stopped, Australia's 264 for eight proved far too many for New Zealand. With Jimmy Neesham missing, their middle order looked vulnerable, and Starc's reverse swing proved the point.
Man of the Match: D. A. Warner. Man of the Series: D. A. Warner.
