Australia v South Africa

Wisden's review of the fourth match, Australia v South Africa

15-Apr-2017
At Basseterre, St Kitts, June 11, 2016 (day/night). Australia won by 36 runs. Australia 4pts. Toss: Australia.
At a ground which shares his name, Warner struck his first one-day international hundred outside Australia, and his sixth in all - only to fracture his left index finger as he tried to catch Duminy, ruling him out for the rest of the tournament. Punishing anything wide, he put on 136 for the second wicket with Khawaja, before a feisty half-century from Smith propelled Australia to 288. In reply, du Plessis - returning after a finger injury - looked in excellent touch, adding 105 with Amla to make South Africa favourites at 140 for one in the 26th over. But, once the Australians found reverse swing, batting became more difficult. Starc, Hazlewood and leg-spinner Zampa claimed three wickets each and South Africa lost their last seven for 42 inside ten overs, prompting de Villiers to lament a string of soft dismissals, and taking Australia top of the table. Man of the Match: D. A. Warner.
