West Indies v Ireland, 2013-14

Wisden's review of the only ODI, West Indies v Ireland, 2013-14

15-Apr-2015
At Kingston, Jamaica, February 23, 2014. One-day international: West Indies won by four wickets. ‡Ireland 202 (49.2 overs) (G. C. Wilson 62, S. R. Thompson 33; J. O. Holder 3-34, D. J. Bravo 3-36); West Indies 205-6 (36.4 overs) (D. R. Smith 55, K. O. A. Powell 57, D. J. Bravo 35). MoM: D. J. Bravo. ODI debut: M. L. Cummins (West Indies). Dwayne Smith and Kieran Powell set up a straightforward West Indian victory with a century opening partnership inside 17 overs. Both fell shortly after reaching 50, but captain Dwayne Bravo's 29-ball 35 maintained the momentum, and Marlon Samuels, in front of his home crowd, finished the game with a six in the 37th over. Ireland's openers had struggled throughout the tour, and Porterfield needed two free hits, both of which he pulled for six, to get to 25; his form was summed up when he got a touch down the leg side next ball. Just 42 runs came off the next 14 overs as Bravo and Sammy bowled tightly. They were well backed up by the spinners, Nikita Miller taking the big wicket of Kevin O'Brien as Ireland slumped to 132-6. Wilson, with a fighting 62, and Stuart Thompson, in only his second ODI, helped them past 200, but that was never enough on a pitch which was a significant improvement from the Twenty20 games.
