Pakistan v England, 2011-12

Wisden's review of the tour match, Pakistan Cricket Board XI v England XI

15-Apr-2013
At Dubai (ICC Academy), January 11-13, 2012. England XI won by 100 runs. Toss: Pakistan Cricket Board XI.
England completed another warm-up win that lacked conviction. Cook scored a century on the opening day, while Strauss and Trott ran up fifties second time round. But Bell and Morgan failed again, and Pietersen succumbed twice to leg-spinner Yasir Shah. Bresnan had gone home with a bad elbow, so Onions and Panesar were competing for an England comeback with Tremlett, who bowled in dark glasses after a severe infection in his right eye. Panesar's left-arm spin claimed four of the five wickets the PCB XI lost for 28 mid-innings, though a maiden fifty from 19-year-old Raza Hasan at No. 9 gave them some respectability. Strauss and Trott took the lead to 250 by lunch on the final day, before Onions and Tremlett reduced the opposition to 16 for three. Only Fawad Alam put up much resistance; once Pietersen removed him, the remaining five wickets managed only 47. Panesar, like his fellow slow bowler Yasir, finished with eight wickets.
Close of play: first day, Pakistan Cricket Board XI 23-0 (Nasir Jamshed 12, Afaq Raheem 10); second day, England XI 82-0 (Strauss 36, Trott 39).
