Champions Trophy 2013

June 24, 2013

Was Champions Trophy 2013 a successful event?

The eight best teams in the game, in a short, sharp format that made all games relevant, in conditions that evened up the battle between bat and ball - this tournament showcased all that's good about the ODI format.

There was too much of rain, and the final - despite the thrilling finish and even contest - was a farce. It wasn't fair that Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the leading Associate teams weren't given a chance.

Yes this event was a success. No matter how bad the matches were hit by rain, it still was a good spectacle. I mean even with the rain if it was fun, then wow!. Rain included, I still feel England is the best place to play cricket. And it is just because of England , its conditions and the way the spectators are in that country that the event is successful or interesting. So overall though this tournament was a hit (IMO ofcourse), I cant see this tournament a big success in future if it is scheduled elsewhere. I would have said India but the only thing that can be a success there is the financial aspect. Not really keen with the high scores anymore. I've had it from the 90s till now for such high scoring games,.though I used to love em for many years. So in other words, it would be boring and not fitting if this tournament continues anywhere except...England. (I dont buy the fact that the pitches are all amazingly changed and dry/flat overnight in England, they got all types still!)

Yes, Champions Trophy 2013 is a success, barring the weather intervention in some matches. It should be continued biennially.

Definitely, although the rain tried its utmost to doom it to failure. The cricket was exciting and kept spectators on their toes. Apart from India's consistent performances, it was difficult to pick the winners of matches beforehand, which added the touch of the unexpected to the occasion. The best thing about it, is that every match was significant owing to the absence of the minnows, and so each team had to give of their best each time. I am sorry that the tournament has been scrapped. International cricket need competitions like these to showcase the teams and players and offer opportunities to play championship level cricket, as well as give the spectators ( at the ground, on TV or via the internet) a chance to see top class cricket involving the major sides in the world. Cricket require these major tournament types to compete with so many other major sports competitions: football. tennis, golf all have their 'majors'. Cricket must do the same to justify its relevance!

D/W Lewis was the MOM many a time. Sad to see the tournament ending like this. Happy that India won this die to the sheer genuis of one man MSD. The rain had a say in many of the matches as the toss became crucial. I think it it is very easy for the ICC to conduct these matches having the weather predictions before hand. Please hire some one from the Met dept next time. This is not the first time ICC is conducting major tournaments during unpredictable weather... This format could have been persisted with atleast in a KO format.

Yes, Though weather is a hindrance to game, cricket is designed like that.D/L method - though its a black box you have to play and win within rules of the game.

The Champions Trophy must continue annually with top four team as per the ranking at the end of the year and should be hosted by an upcoming country on a round robin basis.that will give Six matches and if possible one final. Then only it will become Champions trophy. I hope my message will be helpfull through this comment.
