A multi-talented cricketer who has also been a member of the Australian indoor team, Rodney Davison has served as an opener for New South Wales over a number of years. Standing at a mere 165 centimetres, he is not the most elegant player but has enjoyed a good measure of success with a game that is based largely around the subtle accumulation of runs. On first class debut in 1993-94, Davison etched a place for himself among an elite band with a courageous century against Tasmania, and many similarly stubborn innings have followed. He probably reached his peak in 1997-98 when he hit centuries in each of three successive matches. Nevertheless, his career has suffered on account of the weight of competition for opening berths in the New South Wales team; throughout his time at the first class level, he has been forced, for example, to make way for the likes of Mark Taylor and Michael Slater when a lack of international commitments have allowed them to return to the side. Ironically too over recent years, Davison appears to have fallen out of favour with the NSW selectors at the very time when Taylor's retirement from cricket might otherwise have finally allowed him to establish a place for himself in the state team in his own right. At the beginning of 2001 Rodney moved to Queensland and now plays QCA Grade for Gold Coast (First grade 2000-01 to 2002-03), having previously played his club cricket with Sutherland and representing New South Wales Under 19; New South Wales Colts; and New South Wales in first class cricket.
