Daniel Worrall might be nicknamed "Franky" after the former West Indies captain, but it is another Caribbean legend who he more resembles on the field. Worrall's unusual angled run-up is reminiscent of that of Malcolm Marshall, although he cannot quite boast the same sheer pace and ferocity. Worrall explained the run-up developed from his childhood days playing cricket in the backyard, where an inconvenient tree meant that a long approach to the crease prevented a straight-on run-up.

Whatever the case, it works for Worrall, who broke into state cricket in 2012-13 after moving from Melbourne to Adelaide. In 2015-16 he was second on the Sheffield Shield wicket tally with 44 victims at 26.18, including six first-innings wickets in the final for South Australia against his home state of Victoria. That led to a call-up into the Australia A squad for a winter series against South Africa A and India A in 2016. Solid performances saw him rushed on a plane to South Africa where he made his ODI debut against Ireland and he played two more ODIs against South Africa.

However, injuries have plagued him since then. A stint with Gloucestershire in 2018 was cut short by a foot fracture. He took a career-best 10 for 148 against WA on his Shield return in 2018-19 but broke down again with a back injury. A BBL return saw him take 4 for 23 in the semi-final for Melbourne Stars before further hamstring and back injuries sidelined him in 2019. He was able to play for Gloucestershire again in 2021, and signed later that year for Surrey as a locally qualified player, using his British passport; in his first summer in London, he helped his new club to the County Championship title.
