Bell holes out, India win by 97 runs! Slogged high into the leg side, Rodrigues is out there on the midwicket boundary and settled underneath it, takes a composed catch and then charges off in celebration. England have been thumped at Trent Bridge, and that will light a fire under the series!
IND Women vs ENG Women, 1st T20I at Nottingham, ENG-W vs IND-W, Jun 28 2025 - Match Result
Mandhana's 112 is the highest individual score in WT20Is (for IND-W), surpassing Kaur's 103
Mandhana has broken the record for most runs in boundaries (78) in an innings in WT20Is for IND-W, going past Kaur's 76
5.35pm: Time for the presentations... starting with England captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt: "They challenged us greatly, we didn't bowl as well as we wanted to. [Poor in field?] You'd like to take every catch but things didn't go our way. Something to work on. [Batting] When you're chasing 200 you have to keep going. Losing early wickets gets you behind the rate. Was trying to get on strike, come back for twos and give us a chance. [Positives?] We executed at times well with the ball. Loads of things we can take, momentum with the powerplay with the bat. Five-match series, look forward to another opportunity at Bristol."
Player of the Match is India's captain on the day, Smriti Mandhana: [Maiden century] "Took a long time coming. I had this habit of getting out. We were talking before this tour that it's high time I got a century. We had good prep, these wickets are really good to bat on. We kept the wind factor in mind, just had to time the ball. [Deol] The way Harleen batted, she got the momentum going after Shafali's wicket. [Bowling] We discussed after the first innings, if we are bowling against the wind we have to bowl slower. The bowlers, the way they executed the plans was outstanding. To start with, Richa's catch was brilliant. We have four more matches so we need to keep the momentum going and keep good habits."
Well, that was a riot. England's mini-revival looks like being thoroughly tested! Anyway, Valkerie Baynes' report will be landing in the slot shortly, and we'll be back to bring you the second game of the series on Tuesday evening. Cheerio!
5.30pm: As comprehensive a performance as you are ever likely to see. India were without Harmanpreet Kaur but still top-notch in all departments to inflict England's heaviest defeat in this format. Their first women's T20I at Trent Bridge is memorable for the wrong reasons. They started the summer with a 6-0 sweep of West Indies, but this was always going to be the real test for Charlotte Edwards and Nat Sciver-Brunt. Smriti Mandhana, the stand-in captain, smoked a brilliant maiden T20I hundred, then N Shree Charani, the 20-year-old on debut, wrapped up a crushing win with figures of 4 for 12. Yowzers!
angled in and nudged leg side
flighted, wide line and spinning thorugh. Swing and a miss from Bell
tossed up and chipped over cover for a couple into the gap
Lauren Bell is the last woman standing
landed on a length, NSB cuts and the ball nestles in the gloves again... Ghosh is convinced there was a nick on this! India review the not-out from umpire Middlebrook. Yes, there's a scratch on UltraEdge! That's Sciver-Brunt done for, and England's last hope of a miracle is extinguished. Third on debut for Shree Charani and India are one away from wrapping up a huge win
Linsey Smith is in at No. 10
nicked to the keeper! Filer stands and swishes at one on a wide line and just gets a tickle of toe-end on the ball. Ghosh doing more good work stood up to the stumps. Up goes the finger and England are almost fully cooked here
low full toss, pumped through mid-on without timing
slower ball, wide blockhole, Sciver-Brunt jams the bat down on it
crunched over cover! NSB again backs away and targets the off side, slapped up and away with the breeze
pitched up outside off, Filer plays a bottom-handed flip into the leg side
full toss, swatted down the ground, long-off cuts it off. Just a single in the end
Reddy is back
tossed up on the stumps and NSB works her through midwicket for one
jabbed away going back on off
chipped high into the leg side but it lands safely
dropped on a length, 53mph on off, defended
In walks Lauren Filer
slogged down the throat of deep midwicket! Planted the front foot and went for the big hit, but it's another miss for England as Ecclestone slopes off. She went with the wind but couldn't get it over the boundary rider. Second wicket on debut for Shree Charani
looped up and poked into the covers
Shree Charani is back on
flicked out to deep square leg and they push hard for two
tossed up and beating her swing but down leg for another wide. Applause for the England 100
loses her line down leg, helped away! Might have been a wide if she left it, but NSB gets a strong bottom hand on it, paddled past the fielder in the ring
