It’s been an interesting first day for us and admittedly losing to Singapore wasn’t great. It was a game where we did some things pretty badly and other things pretty well and we now have to move forward.

For the Guernsey side, this is probably the first time for roughly 90 per cent of the side to be playing abroad and that’s something we’ve all had to get used to. The conditions here in Singapore are extremely different to Guernsey.

It’s hot and humid and having five days out here before the tournament started has definitely helped me and the rest of the team get used to things, but we need to work harder after today’s disappointing seven-wicket loss to Singapore.

It’s been a great start to the tournament here in Singapore and I don’t think many things come close to winning Man of the Match for our first game, so for me personally it’s been a good start, especially since I managed to bag six wickets.

For the team, I think we had a good first game, especially since we won so convincingly and it was a game we knew we had to win – in our minds it was a key game no matter who we were playing.

It’s really competitive cricket here, more than I saw in Jersey when we played in Division 5 last time, and the wickets we’ve got here are more run–friendly so hopefully people we’ll see some good games. Although having said that, I’ll be looking to take lots of wickets and making sure the opposition teams don’t make lots of runs!

Next week's European Division Five tournament in Corfu, Greece will be the country's first foray onto the global stage, one of the benefits of Turkey's acceptance as an Affiliate member of International Cricket Council last year

And unlike fellow newcomers, Bulgaria and Estonia, who have competed in various Twenty20 and Sixes tournaments around Europe, for Turkey it will be a total step into the unknown.

The turf wickets on Corfu may take some adjusting to from the Flicx surface of the wickets at Bilkent University in Ankara, the capital where five of the Turkish league's six teams are based.

Maurice Odumbe's campaign to rekindle his cricket career now that his five-year ban for associating with a known bookmaker is over, continues to gather pace, aided by sympathetic local media coverage and a reputation forged at the 2003 World Cup.

Listening to Odumbe talk about the role he still has to play in the game, it is easy to forget how someone who was a role model to a generation of young Kenyan cricketers threw it all away for some easy cash.

Odumbe is keen to portray himself as someone who was badly wronged, who was stitched up by a disgruntled wife, by a spurned girlfriend and by those jealous of him. He has never shown any remorse, and as recently as earlier this month continued to refuse to accept he did anything wrong. "I have forgiven the people who made me suffer," he said. Still sinned against rather than sinner.

With that in mind, it's worth recalling what Justice Ahmed Ebrahim said at the end of the ICC hearing in 2004.

ECB changes leave Associates in limbo

The decision by the England board to dump 50-over cricket and return to the original 40-over format first introduced 40 years ago has left Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands waiting on the ECB to clarify if they are going to be invited to join the

Assuming they are invited to participate in the new, primarily Sunday, competition – and with 21 teams in the mix and only 18 counties, it seems likely that two if not all three of them will be - then it will be a mixed blessing. All three are aware that while the exposure to top-level domestic cricket can only be good, all their international one-day games are 50-over matches and so in terms of preparing them for that the new structure falls short of expectations.

The decision to scrap the 50-over Friends Provident Trophy was largely driven by the counties who have always found it easier to market the shorter format.

Scotland, however, appear to have jumped the gun. While there has been no announcement from the ECB, Roddy Smith, Cricket Scotland’s CEO, told reporters that he was “delighted to be invited to take part,” adding: “I think we have a lot of 50-over cricket planned for next year anyway.”

Uganda opener Roger Mukasa's maiden century gave the visitors their second successive win over Bermuda in Hamilton.

A hurricane threat over the weekend forced the home board to cancel the two scheduled 50-over games and convert the Twenty20 to be played on Monday into a 50-over affair - the last national fixture for coach Gus Logie, whose contract with Bermuda will run out shortly.
