Italy defeated Denmark by 18 runs and were crowned ICC European Division 1 Champions under lights on Finals Day in Hove although both sides had confirmed their place at the World Twenty20 Qualifiers in the UAE during November
Italy, who won the toss and chose to bat under the lights, got off to an ideal start with an opening partnership of 82 by Andy Northcote and Dinidu Marage who scored 41 runs including five fours before being dismissed off the bowling of Syed Bashir.
Andy Northcote who batted fantastically throughout brought his 50 up in 31 balls, shortly after Peter Petricola was dismissed by a brilliant catch on the boundary by Aftab Ahmed for 31. Carl Sandri came and went in his opening ball being stumped by Freddie Klokker.

The ICC European Division One Championship gets underway on July 8 in Sussex with the prize for the finalists being a trip to the UAE for the World Twenty20 Qualifier in November, from which six teams will qualify for the 2014 World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.
The other four ICC regions have already held their qualifying competitions, and the two European finalists will join Americas' qualifiers Bermuda and USA, East Asia Pacific qualifier Papua New Guinea, Asian qualifiers Nepal and Hong Kong, African qualifiers Kenya and Uganda and hosts UAE. The top six from the last global qualifier in 2012 will make up the remaining 16 teams; Afghanistan, Canada, Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands and Scotland.
Runners-up from 2011 Italy are in Group A for this tournament, and they field a team with just three changes from their 2011 line-up. They come into the tournament after a disappointing World Cricket League Division Three campaign in which they finished last. Peter Petricola was the second highest run scorer in that tournament and will again be key for them in this event, with the ball as well as the bat.

Six teams in the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 are aiming to take another step in their aim to qualify for 2015 World Cup when the latest tournament begins in Bermuda at the weekend.
Italy, Nepal, Uganda, Oman, USA and hosts Bermuda are the sides taking part with the first three in that list most fancied to have a chance of progressing to the World Cup Qualifier event in New Zealand which will be held in 2014
Italy captain Alessandro Bonora is expecting a hard-fought week. "As a player you know you are going to come up against tough and consistent opposition and it will no doubt be a rarified and exciting week of cricket, I hope I can step up and hit form early in tournament. I hope we all can," he said. "It will be a tremendous honour for all of us to represent Italy and I will be incredibly proud if we can take it a step further to the 2014 qualifiers.

Kenya have recalled seamer Ragheb Aga and batsman Dominic Wesonga for the Africa Twenty20 qualifiers in Uganda which start next week and form the route to the 2014 World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.
Aga, who was released by Sussex in 2010, missed Kenya's tour to Namibia last September and has not played for the country since facing Ireland in February 2012. He comes in for Duncan Allan who is studying in Australia. Wesonga, who played four ODIs in 2010 and 2011, returns in place of Shem Ngoche.
The experienced core of the squad comes from the captain Collins Obuya, Maurice Ouma, Tanmay Mishra and Rakep Patel.
This is the first time that Kenya have needed to play in the African qualifier following their relegation. The tournament also involves Botswana, Nigeria and Tanzania

Papua New Guinea have secured a place at the World Twenty20 Qualifiers in Dubai later this year after winning the ICC East Asia-Pacific Championship in Auckland with victory over Vanuatu.
PNG made 159 for 6 from their 20 overs, Charles Amini top-scoring with 51, and he received good support from Assadollah Vala (38) and Chris Kent (29). In reply Vanuatu lost wickets regularly and we soon behind the pace before falling well short on 121 all out.
“It was a great performance for the boys and just reward for all the hard work and sacrifices we have made over the last 12 months,” said PNG captain Chris Amini. “All teams really stepped up to the plate to play against us and we had no easy matches so it was great to come away with a win.”

Canada have announced a short tour of Trinidad and Tobago to begin their season. The trip includes a two-day game, a one-day game and two Twenty20 matches.
Allrounder Raza Rehman is unable to make the tour due to academic commitments, while Nikhil Dutta and Rayyan Pathan will make their Canada senior team debuts.
Trinidad and Tobago are without their international players, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo, Sunil Narine, and Keiron Pollard who are on tour in Australia.

South Africa will play Netherlands in a one-day international as part of their preparations for this summer’s ICC Champions Trophy.
The 26-man squad will arrive in the Netherlands on May 26 and stay until June 1when they will cross over to England. After three days of preparation the tourists will meet the Dutch for the ODI at Amstelveen on May 31.

The controversial Cricket Wars tournament which was due to take place this weekend at Nairobi Gymkhana has been postponed for a second time. While not an official event, the last-minute cancellation is another blow for the already tarnished image of Kenyan cricket which is widely seen as disorganised and ravaged by in-fighting.
Organisers, who have failed to respond to questions in recent days, broke the news on the tournament's Facebook page. "We are having to postpone it but we assure you that it is going to happen soon," a post on Wednesday morning said. "Thank you for all the support, we appreciate it."

There is growing uncertainty over the planned Cricket Wars tournament due to take place this weekend (February 1 to 3) at Nairobi Gymkhana with organisers still unwilling to confirm which cricketers are taking part or how to buy tickets in advance.
ESPNcricinfo has been told by someone who paid for a concession at the ground that he has been told the event has been delayed until February 14-16 but this has not been confirmed. It was originally meant to have taken place in December but was postponed shortly beforehand.
The event has fallen foul of Cricket Kenya after organisers failed to respond to repeated requests for clarity over the financial arrangements. As a result, no players affiliated to the board - or any board overseas - will be allowed to take part.
On Tuesday morning, three days before the scheduled start, a message was posted on the official Facebook page which stated: "We are reading all your questions but are unable to give any answers as yet, Kindly be patient and we will reveal more information about Cricket Wars soon."

Scotland have been recognised by the ICC for their work in promoting the game north of the border by being awarded “Best Overall Development” for 2012. It was one of a number of awards handed out to associate and affiliate nations in Europe to recognise exceptional performance and service to the game.
Scotland were rewarded for their programme of activities which included delivering community and curriculum-based coaching sessions, corporate cricket evenings, an expanded junior cup structure and a “volunteer of the month” initiative. They also took advantage of Olympic fever to join the Cricket Factory in getting 450 participants involved during a “Festival Square Takeover”.
Netherlands received an award for their junior participation drive, involving 34 schools, 65 teachers and over 1,000 young people aged 14-15. They were also rewarded for their efforts in European Women’s Cricket week in conjunction with Kampong CC.
France received the marketing award for their promotion of MCC v France, which led to a major new cricket programme in universities and Mike Kwan from the German Cricket Board earned the “Volunteer of the Year” award after eight years developing cricket in Munich.
