The ICC East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Region has announced the winners of the 2012 Pepsi ICC EAP Development Programme Annual Awards.
Cricket PNG has won the award for “Best Overall Cricket Development Programme” due to the continued success and growth of their BSP School Kriket Programme. The programme reached 124,283 participants from nearly 300 schools in 2012, increasing a further 8,000 participants from 2011. This programme is a fantastic stepping stone into junior hardball cricket blooding the next generation of Lewas and Barrumundi’s. This continued growth is a result of the hard work, commitment and stability of the Cricket PNG administration.
The Cook Islands took out the category of “Best Junior Participation Initiative” for their innovative modified cricket games introduced in 2012. Games included Court Cricket (similar to Indoor Cricket) that could be played during lunch breaks as well as ‘one hand one bounce’ competitions at High Schools. A ‘National cricket day’ also took place where nine islands all played junior cricket at the same time on the same day. This has seen a 20% increase in U-19 players (male/female) in Rarotonga, as well as new teams on the island of Aitutaki.
The Cook Islands have also has taken out “Best Women’s Cricket Initiative” for their fantastic improvement in Women’s Cricket. 2012 saw their National Women’s team compete in the ICC EAP Women’s Championships for the first time. Then using their partnership with Northern District (ND) they were able to send 3 national players to attend ND Cricket’s Women’s First class week-long camp.

Cricket Kenya refuses to sanction unauthorised event

Cricket Kenya's new chairman Jackie Janmohammed is facing the first challenge of her tenure with her board refusing to sanction a planned three-day tournament in Nairobi

Cricket Kenya's new chairman Jackie Janmohammed is facing the first challenge of her tenure with her board refusing to sanction a planned three-day tournament in Nairobi. Among a number of issues, requests for clarification about the financials involved in the event have not been made available to the board.
The event, called Cricket Wars, was originally set to be played in December but was postponed and is now scheduled to take place between February 1 and 3 at the Nairobi Gymkhana. Organisers have indicated a number of international players are being lined up to take part despite it having no official status.
Former Kenya Cricket Association chairman Sharad Ghai, who is one of the key movers of the event, has been told by CK its board does not approve of the event and it is believed the ICC is set to confirm that stance. Without such approval overseas boards will almost certainly refuse to allow any of their players - past or present - to take part.
Closer to home, CK faces tough decisions if its own cricketers take part, as seems more than likely. Such a move would almost certainly be a breach of contract for Kenya's professionals and how the board reacts will be watched closely as an indication of how hardline it is willing to be with the country's notoriously difficult leading players.

Ireland have secured more valuable game-time against Full Member opposition, confirming a two-match one-day series against Pakistan in May as part of the visitors' preparations for the Champions Trophy.
The matches will rekindle memories of one of Ireland's most famous days on the international stage when they beat Pakistan at the 2007 World Cup in Jamaica. The sides have met twice since then at the ODI level with Pakistan winning both matches during a short trip in 2011. These latest games will be played on May 23 and 26, with the venues still to be confirmed, during a week-long stay for Pakistan in Ireland.
The matches add to an increasing fixture list for Ireland, which includes a one-day international against England and a tour by Australia A. There are also plans in place to play a series against Bangladesh. Ireland have benefited from extra funding from the ICC that is enabling them to attract more high-level opposition, which is a key part of their long-term plan.
Phil Simmons, the Ireland coach, said: "It's fantastic news for Irish cricket, and we're grateful to both ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board for making the series possible. The extra funding we've secured through TAPP ensures we're able to organise additional matches against Full Members.

Scotland will host Pakistan for two ODIs in Edinburgh in May 2013, shortly before the Champions Trophy in England. Both games - on May 17 and 19 - will be played at the Citylets Grange in Edinburgh. Scotland have played Pakistan on three occasions in the 50-over format, the last one being an abandoned fixture in 2007.
"These fixtures are a fantastic boost for Scottish cricket," captain Gordon Drummond said. "We have the chance to qualify for two global ICC events in 2013, and now we find we also have the opportunity to play two top test nations with Australia also visiting for an ODI in September. These matches are particularly important for the development of the current squad.
"We are all really looking to welcoming the Pakistan team to Scotland once again, and these fixtures will undoubtedly build on the already strong ties between the Pakistani/Scots community. It's a fantastic platform for us to show what we are capable of, as we did with victory against Bangladesh last year- these are the sort of matches that every Scottish squad member will want to be involved in."
"Following the ICC's additional investment in Cricket Scotland through their TAPP [Targeted Assistance and Performance Programme] scheme, we committed to secure further matches against the Full Members," chief executive Roddy Smith said. "These games are vital to continue our progress and measure ourselves against the best in the world, and are integral to the on field improvements desired for by the ICC. We are very grateful to the Pakistan Cricket Board for their support in making these games happen.''

A proposed Twenty20 league in the USA, headed by the USA Cricket Association and New Zealand Cricket, may be on the verge of collapse after USACA president Gladstone Dainty allegedly informed stakeholders at the annual general meeting on December 15 in New York that the board's partnership with Rajiv Podar, the primary investor supplying funding to USACA through Cricket Holdings America LLC, might be coming to an end. It is a scenario that is being denied by Podar.
And USACA is under fire from stakeholders after several claimed they were barred from attending the board's AGM in Florida.
One told ESPNCricinfo: "On approaching the door to the meeting room, we were approached by a gentleman who asked both of us to sign in on the “sign in” sheet provided and to produce some form of photo ID for verification. We both complied, and upon examination of my credentials, the gentleman, who identified himself as Chief of Security of that Hilton Hotel, informed me that he had a list of individuals in hand who were not allowed in the meeting and that furthermore, my name was on that list. He insisted that I leave the establishment immediately or he would take further action, he also stated he was 'just doing his job'."

More importantly, he was a team-player and better human being.”
