The inaugural season of the American Premier League, which was set to take place in Staten Island, New York, in October this year, has had to be postponed, and it is now very doubtful if the project will see the light of day.
According to the league chairman, Jay Mir, a full and detailed proposal for the competition was sent to the USA Cricket Association six weeks ago as part of an application to gain official sanctioning, but no reply has been forthcoming.
Sir Richard Hadlee, the APL executive consultant, said: "We have done what we were asked to do by preparing and sending a proposal to have our event supported and sanctioned and as we have not had any official responses, time has run out for the October tournament. We are hopeful of continuing dialogue in the future."
However, Cricinfo has learned there were major concerns with the size of the proposed venue, a baseball field in Staten Island. The recent announcement that USACA is exploring plans to launch its own Twenty20 tournament also makes the future of the APL highly dubious.

Ireland completed a 3-0 series win against Kenya in Dublin which sees them move above Zimbabwe into tenth in the ICC’s ODI rankings. Ireland have a rating of 26, three ahead of Zimbabwe (23) and 20 behind ninth-placed Bangladesh (46).
Zimbabwe host Bangladesh next month in a four-match series and can move back into tenth if they win the series.

Afghanistan's first foray into the world of international cricket following the ICC World Cup Qualifiers could happen as soon as the end of July.
Zimbabwe Cricket has confirmed that it is looking at possibly staging its opening four-day match in the 2009-10 Intercontinental Cup at home to Afghanistan on July 30.
Zimbabwe, who will be fielding an A team in the competition, albeit not under that name, will then host a match against Kenya at the start of October.

The Bermuda Cricket Board have received 12 applicants for the post of national coach, ahead of Gus Logie's departure in September.
Logie announced in April he would not be renewing his contract with the board, following his side's desperately disappointing performance in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in South Africa, where Bermuda lost their international standing as an ODI nation.

Bermuda's already poor international reputation took another hit at the weekend with reports that several domestic matches were blighted by scenes of ill-discipline. The Royal Gazette reported that two first division games finished early while another was marred by unpleasant scenes.
The worst scenes came in a match between Leg Trappers and Western Stars when a disputed catch triggered a series of rows which culminated in a changing room allegedly being trashed. Trouble flared when a batsman refused to walk, leading to a confrontation with fielders which continued despite attempts by umpires to intervene. Eventually, the players left the field and that is when equipment was damaged.
The game between Devonshire and Willow Cuts was also abandoned after a family row at the ground which led to a fight between two related Devonshire players. Again, the umpires scrapped the match in the interests of players' safety.
In another fixture between Southampton Rangers and Social Club, a group of Rangers' players are believed to have pressured an umpire into changing a run-out decision after he was surrounded by angry fielders. The newspaper reported that a Social Club player "showed his contempt for the decision by walking on to the field without proper attire, removing the bails and pulling the stumps out of the ground".

Hong Kong beat Thailand to win the inaugural Asian Cricket Council’s women’s Twenty20 in Kuala Lumpar.
Hong Kong posted 106 for 4, thanks to a late charge engineered by Connie Wong, who made 23 off 21 balls. In reply, Thailand were always slightly behind the asking rate, and were left needing 17 off the final two overs and six off the last ball. Ishitaa Gidwani kept things interesting by bowling a wide, but she followed with a dot ball to secure the win.
Nepal thrashed China by 73 runs, bowling them out for 30, to win the third-place play-off.

On June 5 2009, the first cricket match in the history of Serbia took place in the picturesque village of Karlovčić, some 20 miles from Belgrade. At stake was the Meridian Bet Belgrade Trophy, played between a Belgrade Cricket Association XII and Carmel & District CC, from Flintshire, North Wales. The guests won, having scored 175 all out versus the hosts 107, but the competitive nature of the match demonstrated that cricket has future in this small Balkan state.

Ranjit Saini has been appointed as interim president of Cricket Canada pending a permanent appointment in the coming months. He succeeds Ben Sennik, who retired on June 30.
“I am excited to take on the new challenges and we have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks and months,” he said. “Sennik has left us a good platform from which to build on and we must do our utmost to ensure Cricket Canada continues to forge ahead”
