Abbas Afridi player profile

Fast bowler Abbas Afridi first played List A cricket in 2018, but it was only when handed a T20 debut in the PSL that he finally found his calling. He finished as the top wicket-taker in the 2023 PSL with 23, off the back of which he immediately became a contender for a spot in the national side.

He got his chance against New Zealand in January 2024 amidst a spate of injuries to several fast bowlers, going on to play a handful of games in the first half of that year. He would reprise his wickettaking knack in international cricket, but the tendency to be extremely expensive has remained a notable weakness; his T20I economy rate after ten games was 9.26. Nevertheless, he was selected for Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad that year, but did not play any game until after Pakistan's exit was mathematically confirmed.
