Danial Ibrahim made his Sussex debut while still a schoolboy - the second-youngest to do so for the county - and etched his name into the record books on day two of the match at Headingley, becoming at 16 years and 299 days the youngest cricketer to make a half-century in the history of the County Championship. A batting allrounder, he finished the season with three fifties to his name, narrowly missing out on a maiden hundred when he made 94 at Worcester a few weeks after turning 17.

Sussex continued to trust in youth the following summer but Ibrahim, still a pupil at St Bede's, found the going a little tougher. He did reach three figures in his final innings of the season, against Glamorgan at Hove, and then notched a first hundred for England Under-19s on their winter tour of Australia.
