Full Name
Amritt Harrichand Latchman
Born
July 26, 1943, Kingston, Jamaica
Age
82y 150d
Batting Style
Right hand Bat
Bowling Style
Legbreak Googly
Born in George Headley's Kingston, schooled at a Shepherd's Bush comp, he marched to a more leisurely beat than the Caribbean cricketing gods, even Lance Gibbs. For those entranced by tales of Sonny Ramadhin but too young to have seen his artistry in the flesh, here was a suitably roly-polyish substitute. He bowled legspin when it was distinctly unfashionable and all with a broad smile. In 1968 he took 88 wickets at 18.88 but grew more expensive thereafter but his batting grew slightly more consistent. In 1974 he moved to Nottinghamshire for three seasons and from there to Cambridgeshire. After retiring he coached at Merchant Taylors' School.
