In a season when Mumbai struggled to get going, especially because of their batting, the net was cast far and wide for young players who could do the job. Hiken Shah was one such player who got a chance in early 2007. He made it to the Mumbai side on the back of strong performances in inter-university cricket and scored a gritty century in just his second game, against Maharashtra. He was, however, unable to keep his place in the side, with several senior batsmen packing the top order.
