Son of the incomparable CB Fry, Stephen Fry, who died on May 18, five days before his 79th birthday, played 50 innings for Hampshire between 1922 and 1931, averaging only 10.58 but revelling in his implacable desire to take the fight to the bowler. In 1931 he was one of five captains of the county, the others being Lord Tennyson, Ronnie Aird, AE Baring, and the professional Phil Mead. Stephen Fry's son, C. A. Fry, has played for Oxford University, Hampshire and Northants.
