A natural athlete, Tim Robinson was a javelin thrower along with his brother Cam, when he was at Wellington College, before he became a professional cricketer. A hard-hitting top-order batter, Robinson seamlessly slotted into Finn Allen's role at Wellington after the senior opener had moved back to his home base Auckland.

In the 2023-24 Super Smash, Robinson hit 298 runs in six innings at an average of 59.60 and strike rate of 187.42. His 139 off 64 balls against Otago at the Basin Reserve was the second-highest score in Super Smash history.

Less than four months later, he made his T20I debut for New Zealand against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, while a number of seniors were away in India at the IPL. Robinson had a rough initiation into international cricket: he was bowled for a two-ball duck by Shaheen Shah Afridi in a rain-hit fixture but, later in the series, he showed glimpses of his explosive potential when he hit 51 off 36 balls in Lahore.
